mate. those tyres are AWESOME! thats what i had on my ratty old mk2. so much grip!

I already have them on the front of it, it was these that I couldn't find any grip what so ever with at the pod

I put that down to a very badly setup car rather than the tyres tho, everything is being setup properly this time rather than just by eye

Max it would be ideal for tuning a carbed turbo or the like due to its data logging capabilities imo, this is the main reason I bought it because my omex is only narrow band being a very old version so I can look back and see exactly what going on where rather than just getting the narrow band version through my ecu. It cost about the same as buying a semi decent but basic wide band setup and boost gauge anyway so its pretty good valve for money if you look at it from that point of view

Looking good guy, still undecided what to do with mine but veering using the AFH block with AVY internals, so if u need a spare AVY block/afh piston's and crank id sell mine preety cheap ..

Ps. Dibs on the wideband max ;)

If you come to sell the block let me know mate, would be good to have a spare just incase it all goes Pete tong

Will do mate, Think its time i shortended the pick up when i put the new block in

Looking sick as usual matey! you will have to pop and say hello thursday if our not busy or il come over to you so we can have a catch up, not having a phone hasnt been as much of a ball ache as i thought and the freedom you get is really good....but its annoying not being able to get ahold of people.

I've saved those blanking plates remember so when the block is back from wherever you send it we can put it in my shot blaster at work and have my man put a coat of high temp primer and paint on it - gunna look sick!!!

Yeah you need to get your finger out Pete

I was the same tho, this came to a total standstill while I saved up enough cash to hit the engine build in pretty much one go. I didn't see the point in pulling it apart and then getting bits and bobs done here and there with bits left all over the place, no doubt I'd of ended up loosing or braking shit the longer its lying around

Try stripping a car down completely! I've lost so many little brackets and fasteners etc

Probably gonna have to end up buying a donor car just to rob it of all the above.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing this next year. Gonna be brutal!

You got a deadline for it all sorted ?

  • Author

Not a deadline , but I would like to have it on the road for the show season. I might not have the body work sorted by then but my main concern atm is to just get it back on the road. It can be painted as and when tbh

i hope dem tirez r going on sum sik 14x14j rimz to gt sum sik stance and stretch, bruv.

On a different note, the progress on this is looking swell... hopefully it'll be built up and running again soon!

Not really mate, block is off being honed and drilled/tapped for AFH head bolts, the heads off being skimmed and the rods are back in work awaiting another 20 thou to be taken off them because i wasn't entirely happy with the tolerance between the big end and the crank.

Painted the rocker

Started polishing the dishes on the wheels

Going to chop some metal work out of a golf shell later that I'm looking to weld into this to allow me to fit the corrado rear seats I have knocking about. Tbh there's not really a lot I can do until the engine parts come back, then I can crack on with building it back up. One thing I am stuck on is working out the cr, I can't find all the info I need to use the online calculators and I need to work that out so I know if i'll need a custom head gasket or not

No need for online calculators dude.

You can use a peice off perspex and a pippette to work out the volume of the clearance volume in the head, then simple cals to calculate volume at BDC

You just need the swept and clearance volumes mate.

On my AEE I did as max said and used some Perspex and a burette with voluming oil to measure the head, and also the piston dish volume, this also allowed me to ensure each cylinders head volume was equal.

Can't wait for this :)

  • Author

Yeah tried that and failed, my syringe didn't hold enough oil. Tbh it was a very halfarsed attempt anyway so i'll probably give it another go once I get everything back and back together

Just got home to find a couple of deliveries, some bead seal so I can crack on with fitting my new tyres, and a G40 TB...

Glad to hear yours is coming together too mate :-D

What sort of time line do you think your gonna be on for getting it done?

Another piece of the puzzle being triumphantly aloft by kiz after he almost single handedly wrestled it from the golf it once resided in
