Mclovins Mk2 Coupe S 1.6 16v Eaton Charged (in The Making)

Featured Replies

So would i.. Well of the failures i've had engine-wise it's just been overheating of the cylinder wall, killing the piston. Running lean, obviously. But even with AEE twiglet rods with knackered big end shells, i could never snap one. And i've snapped rods in both CVH and HCS Ford engines (and an A-series crankshaft!). Healthy cooling system, rich enough mixture, engine at least should be all right.

It's running heavily modified G60 con rods with measurement partly made up in my own head, I'm not sure anyone has done these sorts of mods to the OEM rods so there's a lot to go wrong  I'm also not entirely happy with the distance between the top of the rod and underside of the piston. These rods lube the small end through a hole in the tip of the rod, whether there's enough space up there for that hole to get adequate oil into it is anyone's guess.

I managed to put a rod through a cvh block before, not sure if it snapped before or during its exit from the engine but it made some highly amusing noises on the way out  you did well to snap an A series crank, those engines are tough as old boots!

It still got me to work, two cylinders and two main bearings pulling the car, the other two cylinders and one main bearing managing to keep the camshaft roughly where it needed to be, so yeah i can't fault it for that. Sounded like a badly misfiring air-cooled beetle though, and was shaking itself to bits. It was never the smoothest engine, i recon it was the result of a badly balanced clutch.

Half my CVH was chucked all over the A5 dual carriageway at 70mph, but it still managed to lock up and the diff allowed one wheel to proceed - pulling me over into a bridge barrier and taking out the rest of the car. That was the day i passed my test.

How strange, I was actually thinking about you yesterday. Not sure exactly how my thought process led to it (probably due to being on here recently and reading some old threads), but I found myself laughing at us being over taken by that woman in your polo when picking up some polo parts locally 😂

Good to see you are still alive 👍
