1.6 conversion will not be done in time for the polo show, turns out that the exhaust cam and head have melted together on my spare afh head when it had its oil starvation problem. Thought about using the head regardless but no point bodging it or it'll have to come out again, don't wanna use the head off the afh in the car as I wanna keep a complete engine spare just incase

Still plenty to do tho before the show tho...

It's not the engines fault I ran it with no oil in it tobes

Oh and I've currently got a little side project going on experimenting with some old engines to try and find a Pikey way to boost a afh

haha sick!

Its not just this though, AFH's all over the place seem to be blowing themselves to bits haha.

But no, I shall keep on it, 16v FTW!!!!!

what you done about the relay roller bar??? I had a couple made up which I've used but the engineers local to me are willing to make more, think its like £23 a bar if thats any good for you

I got the hole in the afh idler drilled out to suit the original avy idler bolt Sean, I'm an engineer so i just got one of the old boys to do it at work for me mate, cheers for the offer tho

Tbh getting it drilled out isn't the drama that its made out to be in the faq, you just need to use the correct drill bit and its a piece of piss

Those wheels are wicked!

when are we gonna see some gold vinyl then guy?

When you and brett came for that valve tool brett spotted the faint outline of a long gone sticker that looks very much like the jps logo on the rear quarter. That is where the idea originated from tobes

Hoping to have the power tecs on for action, of so there will be some goldness going down, how much depends on how well other things go as asthetics are very much at the back of the line atm

Cheers for the inspiration 8-)

Definetly agree with the gold theme mate,

You going down the strip?

Hopefully max, just waiting for the salt mister to return so I can grab that head and get the 1.6 built and in. Not really a lot of point taking it up with just the 1.4 in it, I'd rather just spend Saturday getting wasted and watch every one else hit the strip. I think i'll be far too pissed at myself/the car for not having some thing done that really should of been sorted nearly 2 month's before

I'm litterally tingling thinking about going down lol, And that with less power than yours!!

That head of salty's, with it having a pretty bad case of cambelt failure, it might be bent you know?

  • Author

Can you bend a head?

Certainly, all the valves took a whack so the guides also might have had it :-(

  • Author

How can I check for this?

How can I check for this?

If you haven't got a bore gauge then you might have to just see what a valve sits like in the guides...

  • Author

So if the guides are damaged it will be obvious when I fit the valves?

The best way to check if you haven't got a bore gauge or DTI is to put a valve into the guide so its around 1" off its seat, then see how much it can be moved. It shouldn't have any more than 1mm.

The main problem with heads that have seen cambelt failure is the damage it can cause to the guides, not the actual damage to valves because these can just be replaced easily.

Fitted the coilies today

Getting a tyre fitted to the power techs tomorrow and gonna give them a bit of a tidy up ready for action, gonna need to give the arches a bit of a roll too and get the exhaust tucked up in preparation for some hard slamming 8-)

And another little mod I recently did

IMAG0673.jpg

Archliner out and get the hammer in there. Quick skim of bodge. BANG! and the dent is gone :-p.

Can't be arsed with bashing it Karl, that whole side could do with a touch up so just gonna get another wing on and get it blown over to tidy it up

It's for sale at the mo anyway so just trying to make it as best I can

its a shame that you are looking to sell. If I had the money and you weren't so far away I'd snap that up and get out some gold vinyl.

this one was always meant to be a keeper but I just feel like a need a new challenge and a break away from polo's. I've also discovered I can insure a 2.8 v6 xr4i sierra for the same price as this (probably half that if I go with a classic policy), and after a bit of reading up it seems its a very easy conversion to drop the v6 cossie engine out of the Ford scorpion in them...

Which sounds like just my sort of challenge
