hi, got a 2002 9n 1.2, 80,000 miles, car wont go from 4th to 3rd while it is being driven, it just grinds, all other gears ok, but it will if stationary with engine on or off.

Something to do with linkage? Does it go into all the others ok?

I'd agree with linkage, also what are the engine and gearbox mounts like?

Sounds like the synchro cone failing

I would go along with Nige if it was still the one gear that was causing problems, but as it is now affecting all gears, I can't see all of the synchro cones failing together, unless you have put some sort of additive in the gear oil.

I think that I would still be looking for a linkage problem.
