Twin or what?

Featured Replies

Decided to build myself a boot kit. Gonna buy a nice sub, nice amp, and build a box that will sit it flush in the boot.

Just wondering though, does having two subs make a lot of difference to just one? And does it warrant the extra money if it does make a difference?

Jim.

I'd spend the money on sound proofing instead. Reducing road noise will improve your sound more than any extra sub/speaker will IMO

Totally agree with the above. Also if the sub and amp is set up right it you will only ever need 1 x 12" max. Depends if you're going for quality or quantity really. Save your money, get a decent sub, match the amp RMS POWER to the rms value of the sub and spend any spare cash on decent wiring, soundproofing and box build.

With me i usually like to just have substance... So two would be better than one with this logic... Plus, having a boot with one sub that size leaves half left - may as well make big use of it!? haha

But yeah seems the more sensible approach, probably work out cheaper too :)

Bigger subs are more effective than multiple small subs. I had 4 8 inch subs and they were crap compared to my single, less powerful 15 inch.

It's something to do with surface area and wavelengths, all very complicated.

^^ And frequencies - four 8in speakers will still only reach the same frequency of one,but a 15in will reach far lower frequency (and thus bass).

There's so much to choose from lol. I want two subs, but it's not worth it, but i don't just want one :p Maybe i should just spend next month's pay purely on subwoofer stuff.... Even though i'm not going to be driving around in it for another year... Hmmm lol :)

Get a Fli trap, twin subs in a nice small box and they sound absolutely fantastic for what they cost.

I used to always run 2x 12" but since I've had the polo I've stuck to just the one and dont feel the need for more!! Its plenty enough really (unless you want the whole town to hear you lol)

this is what i bought: JBL sub and amp and I'm really pleased with it - goes so lowwwww for a single 12 :-D and shakes the car to bits!

Yaeh basically what i'm looking for is not just really loud bass inside, but i want to kind of be noticed if you know what i mean. I dunno :p i just want to play my music as loud as i can and it still sound good - 1 sub is all well and good, but having two would just add that extra class. I don't think i'm going to be able to do anything else other than do the inside - I won't be able to lower it (that's all i want to do really!) cos my insurance is going to be.... expensive.

You want to be noticed? Since you can't drive for another year, I assume your 16? I'd wait until you can drive before you start buying garish sound systems. 2 subs is not classy. IMO, anyone would look a idiot driving around in a standard 6n with ridiculously loud bass. You'll get noticed, but not for the right reasons

but you will do it any way and then realise after

The JBL btx250 is another brilliant buy i have one and i would deffinatley recommend then they are quite big units tho. BUT the bass is fantastic comes with a built in amp quite literally a plug and play and i think they look better than the Fli as they aint covered in Grey fuzz.

save your money for insurance, i can't imagine what it will be like next year...

I'm 18 actually, but won't be driving for another year because i was banned. In all seriousness i just want some savage bass for when i start driving again :)

Have you thought about component speakers aswell? No point in having loads of bass if you can't hear anything else, will just sound crap.

I have, bought some vibe slick 6's the other day. Running them off the head unit at the moment, but will be amping them soon to make full use of what they have to offer.

Twins are in my all time top 2 fantasies. Just so you know.
