I have a vag come cable which works with my polo 6n 2000 model but does not seem to work with my dads polo which is a 2002 (bubble eyes light)?

When I test the port it comes up as OK, but no interface found?

Its a OBD-11 cable.

there's different ones for different versions of vagcom though. only some of the later ones support canbus. could be wrong but I think you can only get canbus ones from rosstech too but I guess someone could have made copies of this and be selling them on ebay like the older, simpler cables too by now

I just spoke to someone and they said that the OBD 2 Only work with Petrol Mid 2000/02 and Diesel Mid 03/04.

He said I would need a VCDs too work on all cars, anybody know where I can get them from, I tried eBay but could not find anything?

OBD2 came law in 2001 for petrol & 2005 for oil burners, look on ebay for an ELM327 interface lead, and there are plenty of generic OBD2 free software to download

But the OBD 2 works perfectly with my 2000 Polo.

Will the ELM327, interface work with the 2002 Polo Diesel?

Those dates were when manufacturers had to be OBD2 compliant, many manufacturers had it in place well before these dates, and VAG run both their own codes and OBD2 before the 2001 deadline, however the oil burners seem to be a bit more difficult and most held out untill they had to comply ie after 2005 So I would'nt like to say definately yes that the ELM lead would work, but the leads are only £15 and the software is free, the only thing with the free software is it's only a code reader, you can't do any adaptations/valve tests/etc.
