no problem at all as long and I know what should be there :-) I should be able to pinch the one from the existing engine :-) need to get it don by the end of October so I can get it MOTed for a track day in December :-)

Couldn't be easier! Its just 2 little screws, and the regulator comes out!! If you whip one out of an alternator you've got, and drop it in, you should be away with the mixer! So its first real go will be some track abuse??? Sounds promising, you'll have to report how it performs!!!!

Well It will have a few road miles first but yeah it will be trashed round the track :)

Started to remove bits and bobs from the NZ engine

Got it up in the air

disconnected all the wiring from the engine, removed the exhaust, AirIntake and rad

O2 sensor permanently disconnected!!

All that yellow stuff is Spanish sand! :)

Hopefully I'll get the engine in and out next weekend..

Really love this car, dont know why really, just something about it. Should be awesome when completed :D

Save the sand, put it in a little jar or something to keep with the car as a memento lol

Also, where did you happen to get the hydraulic ramps from? Need to invest in some lol

Cheers... yeah I thought the same when I saw it for sale... I like the fact its LHD, has no sunroof and has the brake servo. Its just makes it a perfect track hack and it allows me to go for more comfort on my green coupe S.

I'll try and scrape some off but I have a feeling I'll keep finding the stuff for years to come. :)

The ramps are from CJ Autos and they do hydraulic and mechanical ones.

What size tyres are on your mahles?

also what brand?

Thanks

I still can't believe i was a week too late buying this one, top work as always mark.

They are 175/50/13's and Fulda Carat Assuro. They are surprisingly quite good on the track.

Built up the new engine.

I've got a Newman 264 and vernier pulley but I'm letting the guys at Southam Mini and Metro Centre fit them when they do the fueling.

Going to give that engine a good scrub and paint I hope.

I might give it a bit of a clean but I don't have the time to paint it all up.. needs to be in the car this weekend

my pulley turned up today :)

Well technically... mine started as an impulse buy that I didn't need .... so I needed to find a use for it... so definitely worse than you as I didn't need the car in the first place! :)

Yeah I think I'm going to be happy with the engine choice. I was still unsure if I should have gone AFH but I think this will suit the car more! I hope!

Great project reminds me of my first coupe s with bbs rims on.

Engine going in tonight..

Tomorrow is plugging it all in :)

  • Author

All the wiring has been plug in I think. :)

IMAG0026.jpg

I've plugged in what I can but I've left all the fuel injection gubbins.. I hope it will just run with them disconnected. Need to refit the anti roll bar and radiator and thats basically it.

Fuelling I'm running the lift pump and a rear fuel filter and then a regular in the engine bay

IMAG0028.jpg

Regarding the exhaust system I already have a spare ss mid section from the green polo when it was running a GT engine so I just need a rear section making up. Which I hope to be able to do this week. Then the following week I hope to get it down to Southam Mini and Metro centre so they can fit the cam and the pulley and set up the carbs.

Long time no update.

This is now running... sort of.. :)

Just to a house and job move... yes at the same time! I haven't been able to spend much time on this!

IMAG0168.jpg

the car is now at my new place along with the rest of the car stuff I have and a few tyres!

IMAG0166-1.jpg

Need to sort the throttle linkage out which is a bit of a pain due to the movement needed on the carbs is a lot less than the original movement on the pedal. I had this problem on the the other one but being it was RHD it was easier to drill through the bulk head and attach the cable closer to the pivot of the pedal. On the LHD the heater box is in the way!

It will get sorted over the next couple of weeks. Need to get it running so it can be moved out of the way for the Green on to come home, but it might be the case I do a lot of the rebuild at the body shop!

Did you fit that pulley? It looks like it's for a mech head to me?

Pretty sure it won't fit I'm afraid, the key is on the spocket on NZ/ABD etc whereas the one it the pic the key is on the cam, it'll fit mech heads (mk1, early mk2) and most tall blocks but not the hydro head polo. Would show you a pic of the difference but I haven't got one to hand, and google images is only showing me the type in your pic.
