Window Switch and Fuel Gauge Problem

Featured Replies

Hey guys, got my car off a guy on here last month and it's been great apart from a few niggley things.

The drivers side window switches I had been told before were always a problem and was told they were replaced and working, but the problem resurfaced soon after.

As far as i know, it's a really common problem, the drivers side switch won't open the passenger side at all, sometimes it takes a while to open the drivers side but i can always get both windows to go up. Is the the switch again or is there something else that could be wrong? The passenger window opens and closes every time from the passenger side, so it can't be the motor or anything.

Another thing is that my fuel gauge is very vague... I put in 30 litres from petrol light last night and it flew up to show "Full tank", few minutes later it's showing 3/4 tank, which is more likely from 30L, also the fuel light comes on before it even gets to the red, not sure this is normal?

Polo GTI 6n2 by the way

Any help would be great

Hi, I might be able the help with the windows, If you open the drivers door fully you will see a black rubber tube going from the car to the door, if you pop off the tube at the car end. (The main plug can be undone by turning the plastic right at the car anti-clockwise). This will reveal the wiring, check all the wires for any breaks, I brought repair wires from my 6n2 the other day as two had broken, they provide the main power and earth for the door, these stopped both windows and the door lock bottoms from working.

Hope this helps,

Alan.

Hey buddy, thanks for the reply. I will check that out tomorrow, thanks! It has to be a broken wire somewhere!

It's actually a luxury when i get into my friends 6N2 and the drivers switches work! Haha

Had a look, there was no broken wires, there was a wire on each side where the insulation had broken a bit, so whacked some tape on those.

But other than that, everything was in order there :/
