hes saying that since theres no limit on how dark your rear windows can be, vinyl wrap them white or something along those lines

you wanna turn your car into a van by tinting the rear windows really dark and in the same colour as your car?

yes but whats the actual question?

i dont particually want people seeing my wears in the back of the car i.c.e etc etc

so as i say although i will no longer be able to see out of the back i will still have glass and a seal i.e a window it should be ok??

I've found a loophole in your thinking.

Glass can be smashed, metal panels can't.

I love on this forum that you cant even get a normal response from the mods

Everything is taken at face value Steve!

if you replace the rear side windows with plastic then it's not a case of smashing glass any more, push them hard enough and they will pop out without making any noise.

whats a normal response? honestly what is he asking?

if your insurance will care if you put vinyl on your back window? i can not see it being a problem, but if you have an accident to do with not being able to see out of the back then maybe.

I have never seen different insurance policies for cars or vans, it will still be the same policy just a different vehicle.

will it be classed as a van?

I've owned a polo van that is just like a hatch, and they do not care one bit.

Loophole in the tint laws?

I can not see any loophole as you are not tinting you are covering up

If you put "anti-vandal" film on the inside of the rear windows it would make it smash resistant.

As for you being told to declare it by Vosa/plod I can't see that happening as it's not a permanent fixture as you can peel it off, it would be different if you removed the glass and welded a steel sheet in it's place, then that would be considered a permanent mod and should be declared.

or someone who has plastic windows in their car

p.s. which is kept alarmed in a locked & further alarmed garage

some places won't insure commercial vehicles tho which surely a polo van would be classed as? my mate had issues switching his insurance over to a mk1 caddy because he was going from a car to a commercial and his company didn't do cover for them, if you turned your polo into a van you could run into the same problems surely?

if you did convert a polo hatch into a van then you 'should' declare it to the dvla as you are changing the body type that is shown on the log book. now at what point you draw the line and say this has now gone from a car to a van i'm not sure? if all you did was weld in some panels but left the seat and that in is it really a van or just a car with no rear windows? tbh tho i wouldn't bother and would just keep my insurance up to date on what i was doing to it as the dvla are worthless twats and would just run you round in circles due to them not knowing their arse from their elbow.

i think his original post wasn't so much a question, he'd had an idea and was asking what peoples thoughts on it were. my thoughts on the subject are above, discuss
