Featured Replies

hi all I've just signed up to give blood and the reason why I've done it for this

if i ever have a major car crash and i need blood then i can get some blood back faster than what it normally takes i think and the going out around town once i turn 18 as i live in nottingham and it could get kinda rough on friay and saturday nights so if i get bottled then i can get blood if i need it :)

let me know the reasons why your doing it or not doing it please :)

Needles terrify the pissflaps out of me.

Seriously nearly walked out of a potentially lifesaving injection, I hate them that much

i had 3 hours spare at work and the blood van was there.... it put a couple of hours in... but I'm glad i gave it.

is there any reason why you did it though ? maybe to help yourelf out later on or maybe help a family or friend out ?

well when my nephew was born he needed to undergo major surgery on his skull so my sister and brother in law both give it now so that was an incentive to do it aswell

HIV.

Just kidding.. I would but I am a complete pussy when to comes to needles going into things.. If I was in a situation where someone needed it there and then of course I would.. but not sure if I would just voluntarily have a fat needle suck blood out of my veins..

I'm an organ donor anyway; all organs.. so I feel that I'm at least doing something..

Same here, take what you want, so long as I've finished using it.

big pat on the back for them that have done it or do it regulary.

Someone close to me had a blood transfusion last year as a last attempt to keep her alive. Sadly it wasnt successfull. But without them who gave there blood to help. The chance to even try wouldnt have been there.

Helps so many people just for the sake of giving abit of time and your blood.

mines a needle issue, have a lot of respect for people that do it and will appreciate if i ever need a transfusion

but seriously i cant even talk about needles with people without feeling ill =( lol

i wish i wasnt though as id love a tattoo lol

i think giving blood is like alot of things, people only act when it directly effects their life.

it equates to only 3 in every 100 people give bloody.

Having an issue with needles is fair enough, its your own personal choice at the end of the day.

But, people on their death bed because they have no blood to give to them, if you were to say to them "sorry you are going to die because Mr Smith is too scared of needles to give you blood"

It kind of makes it a bit of a shit excuse, the sensation of having blood taken is what freaks me out, the light headedness and drain and the idea of it is awful.

But it is personal choice, if a family member died of lack of blood in a hospital, i am sure it would change just how scared you are of injections.

I've found as long as you have eaten before you donate and drunk plenty of water, you don't feel light headed and the bonus is if you go straight to the pub afterwards it only takes a couple of pints and your p**said !!

i was fine as a kid when having blood taken but the last few years i just cant seem to man it, they should have strippers to watch when having it done, would take peoples minds off it lol

thanks for your replys people and I'm doing if for my reason I'm tryna get my friends to come withme and after i give blood I'm going maysum and having the biggest munch out and a few beers :p

i did aim to give blood years back but never went through with it in the end

I have had about 6 major heart operations - yes the big chest open ones - i have a mechanical valave and without the 50-80 pints of blood that was given during my operations I wouldnt be here.

I'd love to be able to return the favour - but due to the medication i'm on makes it that my blood doesnt clot as normal (warfarin) and it cant be used for transfusion.

However my wife does her bit on my behalf maybe 2-3 times a year!
