Bike carb running Issues

Featured Replies

Well i just need a little info on the bike carbs, as preferably id like to get them running well for pod, dont realy have the cash/petrol to take a trip to bogg brothers.

mk3 GT

750 gsxr carbs

1.The car loves to be thrashed, and performs well on full throttle, but when trying to drive along at around 2.5k - 3.8k revs it splutters and judders somewhat, especialy with a passanger and driving uphill? the cars running mk3 injection so id assume its the timing not being able to "keep" up?

2. Under full load it spits alot of black liquid out of the exhaust (unburnt fuel) usualy resulting alot of flames, and around 7k while reving at a stand still it will create a small cloud of black fog, its running a 1.0 injection pump t-pieced, so I'm assuming its overfueling really bad, well obviously :retard:, will a regulator solve this, or is it the gsxr 750 carbs just too big and will do the same if i regulate to fuel?

I got around 100 miles to 40quid of V-power, 26litres i think, around 17mpg

We have tryed using the mk2 ingnition with vacume advance, but it didnt do it any help, usualy unable to idle after a minute or two, and will misfire heavly up the revs.

Any tips or info will be very helpfull

On another note, the exhuast is quite loud on the polo, and when acelerating as soon as it hits 4.5k its pretty much like vtec kicks in , more noise, more tourque...

Should this happen or should it be a smooth transition as the jets change? not complianing or anything, it sounds awsome

pump is far too powerful. even a regulator will fail, its that powerful

You need a facet pump, or similar and a regulator would help

You also want the carbs set up at a RR, as 750's are pretty big for a 1.3 i think.

Why people fit carbs and dont set them up properly is beyond me, as your not getting the most from them. Seems pointless in my eyes going to all the effort for only a fraction of what they could give.

Not a dig at you btw lol

There wasnt realy much of a benifit at first, untill i had a mate give them a basic setup, and whacked the dizzy to full advance, not so much more power but tourqe.

Thinking of cutting the slots out of the dizzy so i can advance it more and see how it goes.

Definitly going to change the pump.. will see what i can do with the jet screw and see if i can lean it out a little more tommorow too :D

Oh and i just did it as a little progect realy, i didnt even think i could get it running personaly

i wouldnt bang loads of advance on unless you know what you're doing. you can cause serious damage by overadvancing your timing.

I'm running just intank pump with a regulator and seems ok on tick over ,when reving high i get little spits of fuel out of the back of the carbs ,but ihavent drove it yet due to a clutch problem

my bets is overfueling badly as you said

try ditching the inline pump get a reg and mk2 setup

I'm not that clued up on carbs but surely you could just install a wideband lambda sensor and have a display, and just tune the fuelling using that? Obviously there's no way of running closed loop so you'd literally just need the readout not a controller but I can't see it not working...

Whatever you do, dont drive it like that.

It could end in almost disaster, like this....

Carbs like a pressure around 3psi IIRC?

Normal polo pump is far far more than that. Which is why you have fuel going everywhere. Its not doing your engine any favors either.

PS, sorry to whore out your picture saf

I keep that in mind, as its a reminder as to what could go wrong if carbs aren't fitted correctly.

I've cheaked what the carbs are doing will under full load, theres a little vapor coming out, but thats about it. The t-piece is doing its job well, even better with the lower pressure pump, but il be looking for facet ect, as theres more fuel in my exhuast than there is in the tank.

The only sweet spot with the carbs is the full throttle (3/4) jets, its like waaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, and i can confirm using the ecu on bike carbs doesnt retian the rev limiter, i dont think anyway, seems to go past 8000k ( my limiter) but i never realy tryed as its scary shit

I'm always keeping a fire extinguisher (sp?) in the car, like everyone should with carbs imo just incase, probably no good to a car fire like saf's, but at least i can put the girlfriend out

due to it not running right i might not take it up the strip at pod on sunday, that and the -5mpg under full load , also the car struggles to start just after being run for a while, its not the carbs something electrical, like the batterys dieing, but leave the car for 5mins and tadah! instant fire up, that could be a pian queing up..... all polo fun and games...
