Polo 1.4cl (98) - Central locking complete fail

Featured Replies

After the car was standing for a goot 6months easy as i was learning and modifying the car on my neighbours drive, i disconnected the battery due to the time left standing. Ever since, the central locking on the car will not work at all. There is no responce from the pump in the boot; no noise or anything to indicate it still functions.

I've swapped the pumps over to a second hand one from a scrappy and the problem is still exactly the same; COMPLETELLY dead.

I've read that peoples central locking works when the engine is running or just after it has been turned off, mine does neither, from either door (3dr model). I have to lock everything individually. Not keen on the petrol cap benleft unlocked constantly tho!

Also another peice of info that may help, i only have the cut key to unlock the car with. i have no button/fob/key or whatever else there may be to unlock the car.

Please suggest any way to fix the problem?

Aaron

6n's only have the key to unlock the doors..no buttons etc unless aftermarket have been put in like 'r-click' or similar..

Have you tried un-locking through the passenger's door? Could just be a fault in the drivers door central locking..

If not check any possible fuses?

Yup I've done everything that is suggested as in lock from the passenger rather than driver..

However today (for some random reason asfter posting this topic), when i turn the key in either doors, the central locking pump makes a sound as if it were firing, but it will not lock or unlock both doors; only the door with the key in locks or unlocks..

and the fuse isnt the fault as i is the same fuse that runs the radio and cigarette lighter and they both function fine

These things suffer tremendously from moisture, so it might be that, even if you got the correct pump from the scrappy, if it had been left out in the open, it may, when connected to the power, have gone the same way as your old one.

If it is a moisture problem, you can normally see (very small) brown marks on the green PCB.

As you have got some sound from your pump however, it may be that you have an air or vacuum leak on the pipe work, if you get someone to turn the key for you, you may be able to locate it by ear, you will have to be quick, mind you, as these things 'time-out' within a few seconds, as they are not intended to run continuously.

A common place for pipe failure is in the convoluted tube on the door pillars, so you could do worse than make a visual inspection inside of these.

Regards.
