1.4 16v Sport

Featured Replies

Hi i have just bought, an 02 black 1.4 16v sport 9n... Its standard with a couple of dents but nothing major. It needs a good clean wax and polish I may even compound it as there is loads of swirl marks on it.

So I think I paid over the odds for a car with 11months MOT and 3months TAX, with 104k....£900 :-D ;) As above its the 16v sport model which includes,

Lowered 40mm as standard

Disc brakes all round

100bhp 1.4 16v engine

A/C

Central locking

Power steering

Full electrics, windows, mirrors

6 disk changer

So power steering, central locking, electric windows and mirrors might not sound much but when you own a shitty 106 with none of these its an almighty upgrade.

My plans are paint the mirror caps black, refurb the alloys and get low profile tyres on, install my cd player, sub and amp. Find a fog light cover, and as I said before compound it as there are lots of little scratches that didn't polish out. Shiney new disc's and new pads, good service in 5months time then its getting looked at every 6months. Hope you like it any comments good or bad are welcome. I know many people are not keen on these but at £900 I couldn't let this slip as there quite rare.

So today as I have been finishing work at 12 for the past 4months (getting paid while 4 though :-D ) I decided to add my decal, I bought it from Ebay ages ago ready to put on my new car, so I finally got my new car...Been a loyal Newcastle United fan  on it went,

Hopefully the wiper wont make a mess of it but if it does I will buy two smaller ones and fit them on the rear side windows.

I have now decided to go for a black/white theme, so I am in the process of painting my front badge, so what I did was to separate the badge was pushed out the silver tabs' which I have circled RED.

So you have them separated and have a black peice like this

My badge had some marks on it were I used a small srewdriver to start the separation, so I sanded it all with 1200 grit wet/dry paper so it then looked like this.

After I had got it smooth I then added the first coat of primer.

First coat of white paint, needs to be rubbed down again with 1200 grit wet/dry paper and another 3-4 coats.

Finished at 11:30am today  so it was time to tackle the interior which was full of dog hair! So much so that if I collected it all up I could have given the fooking dog a new coat!!

So I started out with the rear seats where the kid had been throwing sweets and making it a shithole!

So I borrowed some stain remover and a vac from my mum (the cars at hers until I've finished tidying it up)

Ended up with this but I'm not sure if I'm happy with how clean it is? :?

To clean the seats I took them out to reveal this lot! :x

After a quick scrub and vac it now looks like this. :-)

And this is the rear foot wells

I dont have a 'cleaned' picture but it now has minimal dog hair, crap, sweets in the back and I have put the carpets in which look quite good.

My next effort was to clean the 'centre console' so out came the torx screwdrivers and off with the plastics.

All the plastics that I could wash, went into hot soapy water and got a good scrub. Ended up looking like this.

Thats all with the interior for now I haven't put it back together yet as I need to fit my parrot hands-free kit. I bought some removal tools for the cd player so it shall be done tomorrow.

I have decided to paint the wheels white and the mirror caps to match the front badge.

So I took one home with me and put the spare on the car

So out came the Nitro Mors paint remover and with alot of hard work and getting rather high from the fumes I managed to get it ready for some primer

Took off the VW badge on the centre cap as it was faded and crap looking snaded it down to this

Out came the plastic primer and it finished like this

And with one white coat it looks like this

Today I was going to tackle the wiring of the parrot hands-free kit, when I cleaned all the interior trim I left it in the boot so I could access the wires easier. So I took the CD changer and stereo out fed all the wires through where possible, and ended up getting it fitted, I cut a hole in one of the spare plastic covers near the heated rear window switch and it looks alright there and its secure enough so I'm happy with it

I then put everything back together appart from my stereo system as I'm putting my Kenwood one in. I thought I would take the broken passanger mirror off and started to strip the broken glass off, not realising that the heating element was part of the whole thing so I had bought the wrong part from Halfords so I have a new passanger glass if anyone needs one, so I went back to Halfords and spoke to the craziest bird that could work there!! (Give her benifit for being fit and loving cars especially my reg (WRC) lol) So she got on the phone and sorted me a new one from GFS in Leeds at £18.something which I was happy to pay. So now I have a job for tommorow. I think I'm going to go to Halfords again ;) I need some plastic primer, high build primer and more golss white for the wheels and rear badges, I bet its her day off though! I would up load some pictures but my iphone is dead! So they will be on tomorrow.

  • 3 weeks later...

Looks good. Nice to see another 100 pony model. Extremely cheap price you paid for it too!

I took out my centre console for cleaning yesterday morning, amazing how quickly stuff gathers under there
