my mate alan (Polo G40) came round today so we got the bonnet and doors changed and lined up and got the headliner out in 1 piece and removed the interior bit of the heater box as i dont usually have much luck removing it (snapped 2 already).

then we got about testing the sunroof kit, motors in backwards in the video (and al got electricuted sorry! ) but we just wanted to see it working. :-D

heres some pics and Als video with me looking like a hobo.

so think next is the front wings and then its paint prep time.

Did Wee William and has his 10ft willy help you remove the wing?

Looking mint!! Coming along nicely!

Btw where did you get the bling handles from?

  • Author

lol children these days, (story was me and "PoloG40" were fitting the doors and 2 wee guys in the street about age 6-7 started to argue so the wee fat one told his mate he was going to slap him with his 10ft willy, me and Al nearly dropped the door with laughter, maybe social services need to pay his house a visit).

Thanks :-D handles are on ebay about £20 for plastic repro ones genuine ones are a bit more £50 - 100 usually dependant on condition, i got the rear golf ones with no lock, but you then need to fit central locking so might run a lock on the drivers side.

How you getting on with this Richard?

  • Author

Not bad thanks jake. :-)

Shell looks the same as before except it has the new wings on and lined up, just waiting on the painter moving premises so been waiting 5 months so far so and he is nearly there so recon it will be after Christmas before she gets painted, which kind of sucks, but I am hoping it will be worth it.

Most of the stuff to go back on the shell is all ready – running gear etc got a H&R cup kit recently so my struts are all built up ready now as is most of the other stuff - will post a pic of them later as they were looking shiny.

Got the floor to rub down but been putting it off as it’s a nasty job and its to cold at the mo.

And went a bit mad OEMing on my daily E36, but its looking much happier now. BMW seem to do more add ons than VW so got carried away.

Wow those struts look good!

cheers Tav glad to see your still poloing too.

4L the polo cover is the same as a mk2 golf/jetta kit but has a corrado sunroof switch and surroun built in. they come up for sale individually on ebay some times but are usually cracked but I'm bit of fiberglass repair and a paint and you would never know. there is also a version with a built in map light but they go for serious money.

not much to report, shell still looks the same but been gathering genuine bits in the background to put it back together and finding out about the best underseals etc,

Alrite Richard, Hows progress? same as mine :) , You at the Polo show?

Alrite Richard, Hows progress? same as mine :) , You at the Polo show?

Shells the same but been gathering plenty more bits so its progressing but nothing to exciting just clips, bolts and bits of wire. I'm in no rush really, 4 years and counting so far since i took then engine out but no point in throwing it back together and it not being the way i want it. its got to be done in the next 2 years thow as my dad wants his garage back when he retires so my Austin will need to move in or sold.

i have been busy on the E36 lately heres its wee build thead: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=274446 so its nearly finished and will be back poloing more regularly when the weather improves as i have the shell to drill for some of the extras being added and you need to be in the right mood to do things like that.

yeah should be at the show for sat/sun.

Didint realise you were doing that much with teh rag top shit me full strip down :)

Yeah same as me then about another year or two :)

Will catch up at PS

though i better do an update as its been over 6 months...

Sadly its not moved along much due to me getting a bit side tracked over the years building my old saloon GT http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?...=148275&hl= and E36 daily http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?...=274446&hl= , but decided to call a halt - well supposedly and get back to the square side where i belong.

Got a small pile more VW bits but not been to VW for ages and found out my main contacts left to another dealers :-( and most of the stuff i want is obsolete so ETKA Santa had to go to classic parts for some of it.

But bits i have got should make putting it back together more fun. Star buys been a ebay set of new front seats to replace the Rocco ones.

They are corrado leather, electric, heated Recaros and are in good condition for their age so tested them on a battery and all seem fine and give much more space into the handbrake and hold you quite well as they are narrower.

here some pics :

IMG_8642_zpsbf7ed2cd.jpg

and a vid:

th_MVI_8637_zpsbc39f815.jpg

so going to have a big attempt at getting the underside all redone and the extra holes drilled in the shell for OEM+ stuff i am adding before it goes for paint. so still long way of being finished, but waited 4 years so far so a few more wont hurt.

@4L they do a cover it clips into the front screen rubber and then screws onto the motor support arms, its tight between the sun visors but they only make 1 size.

Hi Gaz, thanks they have a few marks up close and one of the handles is missing but all fixable. Sadly no, the BMW replaced the saloon GT the chap who bought it de arched it then it was sold so no idea if its dead or alive would have needed a re spray by now. Hows your loon?

Sexy seats!

Green saloon isn't good it looks like it needs another respray as something has gone wrong with the paint on the previous work. :( I currently have another saloon which is my daily at the moment. I also had a mid life crisis last year and bought and audi 80 cabrio with the 5 cylinder engine 8-) That also needs some work I'm just waiting for some warmer weather to arrive so I can get started.

Cheers Alex, its bit hard to judge how they will be as i cant drive it yet but feel better.
Audi 80 cabs nice gaz, enjoy the VDOs in the center console.

^^^ they are quite cool GT arch kit squareback stylee. Think i'm going to run the fox "banana" trim at the rear arch keep it smooth paint down the sides though. Old girls up in the air at the moment getting the underside done, scrape scrape scrape such a crap job sad.gif
