Hi all,

From reading about i'm lead to understand I can fit a GT cam to my 1.4 8v (APQ) its a later multipoint injection from the later 6n.

I think these time up around half a tooth out, so i'd need a vernier pulley too.

But if I can run a GT cam, would I be able to run an upgraded cam for a GT engine.

I'm thinking of getting a newman fast road cam off PhilJ, 268/268.

Does anyone have any help or advice for this? Would I be able to run it ok?

I know it might run a bit lumpy low end, maybe a 264 would be better for road use, but I dont mind that.

Any help/info appreciated,

Rather not splash out on a new cam and end up having no gains or it having too much lift etc.

Just whack a GT cam in tbh, rather than spending a lot more on another cam, it's only a 1.4 8 valve so just enjoy cheaper mods. I think a GT cam will go in with the standard pulley.

yeah but upgraded cam for Gt is a step further for me :)

If your spending the money on a performance cam, why not get one already designed or get one ground up for the 1.4 8v?!

You're right about being half a tooth out (well its about 4.5 teeth out,but turned you get it to half a tooth). However,a vernier isn't needed because if you run the half a tooth advanced,it runs okay.

I think you're pissing in the wind though,thinking of spending money on a cam. 1.4i simply isn't enough in a 6n, if my healthy valver is anything to go by. Unless you like constantly revving the living daylights out of it.

You want 1600cc and vvt.

I know it might not be worth it, or it's cheaper and easier to just stick a valver engine in, but I just wanna do a few little bits, just for the fun of it tbh.

Not gonna be much fun when you've spent several hundred on a cam and don't really notice any difference.

Buy the 268° effort, it'll make more of a difference than the GT cam. But I've never done it myself, so not 100% sure how happy your standard ECU will be with it - it'll probably manage okay, but no guarantees.

well once iv done a few other mods to go with the cam i intend on getting a custom remap done, just finding somewhere that can do my engine code seems to be the difficult bit!

just have to make sure it doesnt start running too weak and do damage in the mean time!

Phone up awsome gti dude, may be ask for AL hes a good guy, they did some research in to the later engines i had one done in my loop.

Dude you might just be on to something there!

I think it would fit, could maybe ask them?

The guy who might be mapping my said straight away "you'd probably want about a 260 cam in that" so that maybe ideal.

He said he would remap my ignition curve and fuelling, but before I buy anything to let him plug in and check if he can definately do it or not!

Hi are you still at Gaydon? May need to have a chat as currently trying to give my AEE a bit more poke, and with the head work, passat throttle body and exhaust, I dare say a remap is required.
