Hi guys

I own a mk2 1.0 4 speed

It runs fine but when starting it the engine makes a whirring does for about 3 seconds after it's fired

Any advice?

Iv looked The cambelt and it looks fairly new

It may be your starter motor sticking?

dont they all do this?

both my mk3 genesis and GT made a whine just after you started it.

Starter sounds possible as some times is doesn't do it. I will just wait it out and see if a problem presents it's self.

Hopefully it's just a old v dub thing

I would think that it is probably dry bearings in the starter motor.

Ok, so if it's dry bearing in the starter should I e worried or is it going to take ages to finally go?

The old saying that 'a stitch in time saves nine', could well apply here. It may well pay to remove the starter and give it a service (or let an Auto-Electrician do it for you) rather than just leave it and hope that it won't let you down when you are parked at the bottom of a hill!!

I dismantled a 6n Bosch starter and put a photographed thread up. Dont think its in the FAQ i dunno. Have a search.

Clues for keywords - it was so i could use a MK2 flywheel on a 6n2 block. And one of the starter motors i tried,which fitted but was too weak for the high compression 1.6, was a Hitachi one.

ah mine does this too tthen goes away after a few seconds. thought it was normal haha

lol old polo's do seem to make some strange noises, gonna have a look at the starter and see if thats the cause

More strange than the "quack" type noise the starter's on GTI's (I know it happens on both the lupo and polo gti, could be on others too) make at startup.
