howz it going guys.

after jumping between the jap and dub scene a few times I'm back to the dub side.

(i have had DC2 integra type-r, 225 quattro audi TT, 231 mazda RX8)

been looking around at polo GTI's for a few years no so that i can save some money and get myself a house bought and get moved out eventually.

so i found one on pistonheads and popped down to fife and got myself this lovely (although rough around the edges) silver polo GTI

2001polo GTI 1.6 16v

15" Ronal LS's with some stretch out back

coilovers (i think gmax, due to red springs and yellow top mounts)

unknown 4 branch manifold - heat wrapped

unknown cat back (with i think some golf gti backbox)

unknown induction cone (now removed)

de-wipered rear window

pressed plates

red "leather" roof lining (half assed job that needs fixed)

painted front and rear "VW" badges ( getting repainted as its a half assed job)

my plans are to get rid of the induction cone and basically tidy up all the wee tatty bits, sort some electrical issues and just keep it clean and the sump itact. lol

so here are just a couple quick pictures to get the jist of the car, not had a clean or anything.

not much has happened yet, just a couple better pictures of how she is standing just now.

right so after having it a few weeks, bang, out pops the driveshaft. d'oh!

hanging about in the freezing cold for over an hour waiting on a tow to my mates garage.

makes a good photo though

71740_1693306131351_1198727798_31923674_

painted a couple wee bits matte black because the previous owner had decided that red looked cool :picard:

now my first big buy!

i was fed up of not being able to see a thing on the road, so with the adjusters being fucked i had to splash out on new headlight units. £550 later I'm able to see at nights

they look sexy and new though

not to much has really happened, just keeping it looking clean as possible and enjoying driving

but after a three week trip offshore over christmas and new year i have decided to start buying some wee bits and bobs.

so I'm just awaiting delivery of a standard airbox and pipework to get rid of this monstocity

17102010085.jpg

and awaiting a set of nice pepperpots so i can get my ronals off and refurbed and polished up.

and i think this is plenty clearancy for my drive (its an empty car)

17102010079.jpg

and a wee pic to show how stiff it is, i can get her cocking a wheel coming out my driveway

not to much done but I'm slowly pulling my finger out.

thanks to jonny i got my fan belt tensioner and belt changed, as the tentioner was chappin its tits off.

and well i think the belt needed changing anyway.

b7a19ab4.jpg

thanks to the guys at wallace performance for sorting out my blowing manifold collector and fitting a flexi pipe,

i can actually back off the accelerator without the exhaust bouncing off the chasis. and it now sounds very tasty.

i gave the pepper pots a quick refurb and spray and think they came out quite well.

180352_1886321916625_1198727798_32311665

trial fitted them to the car with the hub adaptors to find out the bolts are a wee bitty to long so

need to hunt down a spare set and shorten them by a few millimeters, as they are bottoming out on the hub whilst the wheel is still loose.

pepperpots.jpg

i manages to hunt down a standard airbox and associated pipework with an almost new k&n filter for almost pennies off

clubpolo and the guy was even nice enough to throw in the plastic engine cover as well.

i did have it sprayed nighthawk black but it looks out of place so since it was a spare i dug out stickers i had and have started

stickerbombing it. I think it's a good contrast to the look of the rest of the car.

just a couple wee things done/to come.

first off as i know police do troll forum like this that anything said is not directed at the specific officers that delt with me. i found them extremely respectful, didnt talk down to me or give me attitude.

however i am more than aware the only reason i was stopped in the first place was because I'm a "young" male driver in a modified car.

basically whilst on the way to the cinema with the lady friend i got pulled over as i was driving along the dual carridge way underneath union street by traffics that were sitting at the side of the road.

basically I'm getting charged for the car being dangerous due too "tyres fitted are unsuitable for wheel rims. rim width exceeds maximum permissable by tyre manufacturer"

and i left with a ptohibition notice so i can get my car home, after that its not allowed on the road till its been mot'd. funny thing is it passed an mot with those tyres on with the last owner.....

so basically a case of off with the ronals and on with the pepperpots

first offi had to fit a set of FK 20mm 4x100 - 5-100 hubcentric adaptors

80f633ea.jpg

b548aa8c.jpg

also notice my new EBC discs and green stuff pads ;)

nothing fancy but the old ones needed replacing.

then after about an hour of modifying my new wheel bolts were ready,

the shortest i could order were a few mm to long and were hitting the hub through the spacer.

67f87b64.jpg

cut down - standard - extra long to clear spacer and screw into hub

just a couple pics of the new wheels on without the centre caps then with,

they're rough but were just ment to be as spares/winter wheels.

so now that me got the ronals off, the tyres will be coming off and getting sold, and the wheels will get refurb'd and the smallest legal tyres fitted.

5a693d1e.jpg

also got my hands on a pair of lupo stubby mirrors which will be getting painted satin black and fitted.

1fe1d25c.jpg

2df1bff7.jpg

now just fingers crossed for the mot which i would normally have until september/october to get ready for.

i have your exact exhaust tip ;)

looks sweet duuuude! : )

  • Author

its not just a tip thats on it, its a gold GTi backbox i think, genuine VW anyway

Right got the car mot'd and I'm back on the road again! Woop.

Although I'm only rocking the pepperpots so not quite as cool but there growing on me.

5db1014f.jpg

Took advantage of the sun today and me and the mrs decided to spray and fit my a couple bits. First off I got on my stubby mirrors, just sprayed in satin black ( might change this as I'm not TOO keen )

Here's the size difference of the old and new

And here's them fitted

Another wee touch, I replaced the ghetto as hell front badge with a nice new shiney one

And finally a wee shot of wheel getting into my drive, I can't get over how much it lifts off the ground

£550 headlights?!

Looks nice though mate, the pepperpots really suit it

  • Author

yeh it was just the standard headlights from VW as the ones that were on to begin with were goosed.

You could of bought another car for £550 :o

Seen this going about quite a bit, friend craig you know pointed it ou to me. New headlights really clean the car up, Pitty about the stretch, i was just away to put some stretched tyres on mine but not worth the risk.

  • Author

yeh, whenever I'm at home I'm out and about all the time.

which craig?

and its not worth it to be honest, cops hinted that they're targeting VW's especially, but as long as you stay withing tyre manufacturers recomendations youll be fine. dont know much much stretch that gives you though

Craig Anderson, i was in the Mk 6 Golf on wellington road a few weeks back with him, Yeah i know seen on eastside they've caught a few out now.

It'll be a little while before wheels are on anyway, need to get coilovers sorted out currently sitting like a wedge, do you ever have any scrubbing problems with yours being so low?

Also silver GTi's are the best!

  • Author

ah ok, that must have been the day i drove past him about 3 times that day.

nah i dont get any scrubbing issues, but all the arches are eler so slightly rolled, but ill need to do them properly

  • Author

will be up for sale soon :crybaby:

as i just fancy a change and going back to jap.

Nice GTi mate, shame to sell it on but must be a killer going from having a decent amount of power to something thats only nippy tbh

What size were the Ronal's and what tyres?
