Featured Replies

Hey, I've had this car about 2 weeks and been doing some bits to it.

Rup had it advertised with a cream leather interior and steffan wheels but he sold those seperately and i got it with a drivers seat only and on g60 steels.

this is rups for sale advert and how it used to look

I'll be keeping it for another few weeks but will be up for sale early next month after its had its MOT.

I've decided after much careful consideration on something bigger and more practical, so my polo has to go.

I've put blood sweat and tears into this car and I'm literally going to cry when it gets sold.

Its a 1998 R reg 16v 6N polo in Pearl Black Magic.

Just gone over 100.000 miles but has been well looked after with NO expence spared.

Its had two resprays since I've owned it, with over 2k's worth of bodywork.

blackpolo4.jpg

Then here comes the bad bits...

The boot popper didnt work when i got it so since then iv ordered a new one and had to re-wire it all in. Now works sweet though!

It has a severe lack of power, plugged it into the vagcom and it came back that the injector to cylinder 1 was faulty so I'm on the look out for a new injector rail and injectors if anyone has some? cant find any for sale though.

then........going down the M56 towards chester on saturday this happened!

209067_10150150102698071_564208070_65931

The passenger side rear wheel bearing had sheered off and caused the drum brake to split away from the stub axle causing the wheel to come flying off at 70mph!!!

The wheel hit another car and then stopped about a mile down the road on the hard shoulder.

So after waiting an hour for the recovery truck and sunbathing on the hard shoulder i got it taken back to my mates house and he set about the task of doing a rear disk brake conversion.

Old drum in pieces

Disks on

Calipers on

Photo0284.jpg

New brake lines

Photo0286.jpg

We used mk2 golf gti stub axles, mk2 golf gti disks and pads, mk3 golf gti calipers and carriers, and 6n2 gti hand brake cables.

Next on my lift of things to do is.....

1. get the injectors sorted.

2. get the passenger side rear panel resprayed.

3. Seat ibiza cupra interior.

4. more lows.

5. wheeeeels

Thats all for now but this is seeming like I'm gonna have to do alot of work on it so ill keep updating I'm sure.

Fuckin ell, maybe the previous owner should've spent less on paintjobs and more on keeping it mechanically sweet

Hes sold em man :(

Yeh i spyed some clear repeaters on a saloon at the scrappy the other day and I'm off to get them tomorrow.

mate the disks are sweet stopping power is immense now and it likes corners much more :)

yeah man wheels will be coming in time dont you worry haha. just need to save up again now after spending all my money on a rear disk conversion and new engine parts!

amazing how average it looks without the wheels and interior. Wouldnt bat an eyelid if that drove past me.

Incredible that the wheel came off. Would this be because it was ran with camber and oversized wheels?

Cant be sure, but driving the car round with an injector fault may cause more severe problems?

Looks like a very sweet base to start with and cant wait to see what you do with it!

there is much difference in the 1.0 - 1.4 6n's, only 5bhp i think

  • Author

I'm pretty sure a 1.0l 6n isnt 95bhp ahaha

woops, missed it was a valver, and you mean 100bhp? 1-1 8-)

What wheels do you have in mind?

I know mate, happened all of a sudden aswell :?

Yeah it doesnt look up to much at the moment but its all there. got a few things in the pipeline. I think the ride height doesnt help either.

not sure on driving with the dodgy injector? i only really take it on a 12 mile round trip a day atm so it cant be harming it too much.

You stated that there was a 5bhp difference, so i knocked the 5bhp off the 100bhp of a valver to get 95bhp.

2-1!

Ahaha :p

i still have my red weller mattigs and I'm a powdercoater.............

we shall see on that one.

but if not then I'm looking at something a wee bit more expensive

1.0 8v - 55bhp

1.4 8v - 65 bhp

1.4 16v - 100bhp

1.6 8v - 75bhp

Fucking hell! you kept that quiet about the wheel comin off, when was that!!

The underside of the car alright?

And how much did it cost for the disk conversion?

Wish i had as much money as you.

The not so funny thing though is that i was in the car with you the weekend before and we were doing a wee bit over a ton lol

Dont get it?

Dont get it?

stating on a public forum you were breaking the speed limit could fear badly for the new owner if someone like the bobbys were reading this.

Powdercoat your old mk3 wheels Silver and get them fitted, would look so much nicer.

My Mates Got Them Polished BCW's and there the tits like :) nice car btw
