just wondering if anyone has let the dvla know about there conversions and how they went about it, any help is welcome

the general consensus the last time this subject came up was not to bother as the dvla had made it a nightmare to do

check dvlas site, they request some bizarre information

- written letter from manufacturer

- reciept for engine

- statement from garage who performed the conversion

I've never bothered declaring a conversion to the DVLA, but do declare the conversions to my insurers, who had no qualms with it not being registered with the DVLA.

the only worry you will have, is if you change the taxation class, as you will be liable for a higher rate of tax, and they can if you get found out, charge you back tax for past months

worth the risk, if you get found out you pay the back tax and your no worse off, don't get found out and your quids in

not that i would ever dream of doing some thing so dishonest

i dont have a reciept

and as i did the conversion id ave to write the letter myself surley

To be fair i haven't bothered seems to much hassle

As a general rule, just insure it properly. screw the DVLA.

Bloody hell! Whats the point in the DVLA making things like this harder for the likes of us who want to be legal and above board.

I converted my CL to GT 5 years ago now, and back then it was a doddle to declare the swap. I just changed the engine number on my V5, and wrote a cover letter explaining that one vehicle was being scrapped and the engine removed from it, and fitted to my vehicle. 3 weeks later and an amended V5 turned up.

I was thinking of declaring my engine swap on my Mark2 (same engine code and displacement, just a different engine number), but with the hoops it appears I'd have to jump through... I might not bother.

I knw I had a look yesterday an my god. Why cant they just let you ring them an bish bash bosh sorted o well
