as titled am looking to find 2 rear arches for my 6n i believe you cannot buy them from vw anymore any suggestions where i would get them ?....would consider ones that have been cut out of a car with no holes so i can repair/replace my current arches

I hear rear quarters are a pain in the arse to fit because they are welded to the chassis of the car?

I could do with some that are not as rusty as mine so let me know if you come across a way of replacing them (or a place that sells them new)!

cv panels in glasgow, scotland might have them will phone tomorrow and find out. the link for ebay is for 5dr arches i should of specified 3dr

No S*it I thought they came ready painted and with double sided tape to fix them in position!!!!

Get a grip. idiot! Somebody earlier said they'd heard they were welded but were looking for an easier way. Sorry for confirming.

Listen W**ker any one who knows anything about replacing body panels knows they will almost certainly need welding into position!!

And yes you are a Dic**ead for stating the obvious, so grow up an realise that age has experience (nearly twice your age in driving years) over pubescent inexperience!!!

Yes somebody in the trade will of course know they need welding in, it's obvious if you even look at the car! Someone who doesn't know about replacing panels and may be expecting to order them, rattle can them, and bolt them on, maybe not so much eh?

I'm gob smacked they are less then 30 quid a panel. I was fearing a lot higher then that to be honest! I take it the the highest cost will be to have them fitted and painted then??

Yeah, I had a quote of £500 to do both rear arches on my 6n. I thought that was reasonable considering the amount of work needed (turns out you can't just tape them on :( ).

If you want yours doing, I can put you in touch with a shit-hot welder up in Leigh. There's a paint guy that works in the unit next to his as well.

Well they would probably both need doing, but I can't warrant the cost of getting them done any time soon really.

It might just prove easier to get the offending arch cut out and weld a new section in, rather then a complete panel perhaps?

Well to be honest, it depends how far the rot has gone. They'll have to cut it back to clean metal or you'll just get it coming through again. They won't cut it further back than they have to though, they'll trim down the repair panel to suit.

Most of the cost is in the painting rather than the welding, and to blend it in properly they'll have to do the whole quarter panel anyway.

I didn't think of the blending to be honest. hmm I'm in two minds about it now then really.

How bad are they? With having a dark coloured car, you'd get away with grinding it back and covering it in POR15 just to keep it at bay for now.

In the end I decided the car wasn't worth enough to pay out to have them sorted properly, so that's all I did.

Yeah i have done this already, i ended up grinding it back and treating it with Krust. They are not too bad but i know it's bitten in between the outer and inner skin of the panel so it eventually give way.

After pricing it up though with the weld costs so high, i'm thinking now that the weather is nice i'll just cut the paint work back and redo it all as best as i can.

I've just ordered a set of these repair panels off the German ebayer listed by Matus, i'll repost what the results were- i've had no luck finding any 3 door repair panels for my 6n in the UK so this seemed the best option. Worked out around £75 total for two panels inc. postage, which isn't to be sniffed at, provided they turn up...! Using ebay in German proved to be novel but none too taxing, all the buttons are in the same places at the checkout etc as on the UK version so I wouldn't let it put you off...

I have'nt but my mate has used them before when he was rebuilding various cars mini's,mg's etc All you have to remember is that they are pattern parts and not genuine manufacturers parts, so they might take a bit of joggling and trimming to fit.

Probably find their all stamped out in India or China! and shipped to wherever? Cleveland panels list the repair panel @ £20.63 ea then probably vat & p&p
