hello peeps - all of a sudden the bass from my woofer cut out. i have a 10" re audio sx10 powered up by alpine m1000 amp. wired up to 2ohms to receive 1000w.

i also have an inphase powercap - iv just checked and the powercap doesnt seen to light up anymore, the lights aint going.

is it possible the powercap has somehow lost its charge??

I'm clueless and screwing cos this whole set up has cost me around £1000.

iv checked all fuses and wires but everything seems to be fine. the amp turns on so it is powering up

come on lad, check the basics, the wiring, the fuse on the wiring, amp and the circuit board...

That's the first thing I did- iv re done everything and gone over everything!!

powercap doesn't light up anymore!

remove the power cap and connect and straight to battery then you will now if its the powercap thats gone

Mine used to blow the earth cable cause I had my amp turned up too much. Adjusted the amp settings for less bass and then took the earth cable off and on. Hope it helps :)

take cap off test circuit. if work cap blown. if not, amp probably blown.

i took the power cable off cap and plugged it straight into the amp and it worked!!

my power cap did light up but then died so does it mean the the cap is blown or that its not holding charge? i dont understand how it could have lost its charge thou

If a capacitor blows then your going to be the first to know about it.

We used to blow up small electrolyte ones in electronics at school and they took chunks out of the table.

Chances are it wasnt up to the job, or it got overloaded and damaged the electrolyte.

He's not lying btw! :p Wire a small cap the wrong way and they make some bang!

it makes a big difference having a power cap and today is the first day I'm running the system without it and it sounds crap - on the same gains i cant turn my volume up to what i use to and the sound quality is well different.
