i have used the search button before people say :) lol

i got about 5 pages into it and didnt see anything that answered my question..

basically, my head is on its way out and rather than replace the head i fancy an upgrade..

i have a vw polo 6n 1.0 1996 model

and i have heard off a mate that the 1.4 8valve motors just fit right in without any wiring or anything? just a case of swapping the key barrels, ecu`s and the engine?

is this true? if not.. what would i actually need to change?

Engine and ecu. Why key barrels?

No need on 6n's, but in some cars if you swap the ECU, you need to match the chipped key to the ECU to turn the immob off.

yer thats what i ment, when i done a conversion on my old saxo i had loads of caffuffle with the keys and ecus and things which was a right pain in my rear end ..

so litrally everything just unplugs/unbolts... then the 1.4L 8valve engine drops right in without any modification what so ever?

so i will just unplug the old ecu.. plug the 1.4 ecu in and then use the 1.4 key?

6N's also need to have the chip matched to the ecu, we had a problem with this on higgo's mk1 because we fitted the ecu from my afh but the immob set up from my spare afh conversion. the ecu wouldn't recognise the chip and wouldn't disengage the immob, swapped the immob set up over and both cars started fine

any one that doesn't know that the chip is easily removed from the key may very well see swapping the keys and locks over as the only way around this

so my shopping list is ..

1.4L 8valve engine

matching Ecu and key to remove the chip from and put inside my key ?

also immobilizer box and transponder ring

which was a right pain in my rear end ..

i feel quite immature right about now
