thinking about rattle canning my car white this summer but I have never seen how it comes out.

If you could include details on the Spray and how many cans etc that would help

i was considering this too tbh, my body work isnt great. not seen how it comes out but it wouldnt be as good as a spray job done properly.

if you can get a spray booth or somewhere like that then it should come out a lot better than doing it on your drive way etc lol

dont forget 10billion rolls of masking tape.

my paint was all dodgy coulours so i did mine gloss black, still needs laquer though so its a bit dull

well i did mine in filler primer "matte yellow" (yes paint nazis it woulda been absorbant etc etc but it was summer at the time and it was scrapped by winter lol) took me and my cousin 1hour hour and a half to strip the car 2-3 hours to spray and put it back together the next day

took 3 ltrs of pain (5x600ml cans) and 3 rolls of tape lol also about 4 hours to do the checkering lol 64 individual squares lmao

the yellow one dont look half bad tbh :)

tip is to do a lot of thin layers instead of a few thick ones, and a light sand in between coats to key it for the next one etc, you hget a better coverage. (from waht iveread on the subject)

tbh my paint isnt too bad so i might just do sections that its gone a bit funny, get some paint and have a go :)

this is months old, not even fresh but the paint still looks clean on my 6n :)

tbh bonnet could do with a rubdown and repaint but only visible a tiny bit patchy, its not perfect but hey!

could do matt white? I've been considering doing it myself!!!! ;) but it depends what you want/need from your car i went for matt because its gangster and cheap 8-)

My old one done with 10 cans of Montana MTN 94 Graffiti paint could of done with a few more cans for the roof and rear quarters but was ok for what i wanted.

Thats soooo Nice!

I was thinking Matte White, would be easy since my car is already white but the paint is ruined :(

So i'd have to primer the whole car then spray...

How many layers did that take you and wheres the best place to get sprays?

People are going to disagree here, but if you're DIYing it, you're probably actually better off with a roller and a can of two-pack.

Just expect to do a lot of flatting afterwards.

If you want a nice glossy finish yeah but its bloody hard work aprentley

i dont understand why everyone goes matt when rattle canning cars. for every good rattled canned matt finish car there seems to be several which looked better before repainting.

no reason you couldnt get a gloss finish if you are willing to put the effort in.

botton half of a £100 polo that i decided to 2-tone for chuckles

another good example is the harlequin polo saloon that someone off here did for the polo show last year.

its not like its much more effort than going matt, the prep is the same, only difference is the need to cut and polish the paint after you have given it a week or so to harden up a bit.

After looking at the Matte Bronze and Matte Black 6ns I think I wanna go down the Matte Finish road :D

Jon, looks like they turned out pretty good with you.

I'm planning on spaying a few panels on mine with cans but i'm pretty worried they're good turn out shit.

How do you stop it going patchy etc?

patchyness would be down to uneven/thin coverage. with a plain gloss colour, so long as you get pleanty of paint in the panel, you can simply wet sand it, then buff it up with a machine polisher. metallics and pearlz on the other hand are more tricky.

on that wing i think i used 2 300ml cans of paint

^^ looks a well tidy job that, good colour match too

you would be ok doin a panel but painting a whole car? trying to get a large panel such as the roof and bonnet painted evenly without patches would be difficult to say the least even in matt

no idea whos this is but its been on my laptop for years! Looks amazing

The roof being the hardest. Unless you can jack the car up high on one side to get the can angle spot on and your laughin.
