hi were is the handbrake adjusted on a 1999 6n polo cheers

Pull the handbrake surround off, under that you will see a bar that splits the cable into 2 (one for each side of the car) on that bar there should be some nuts on the end of the cables, do these up to tighten the cables or undo them to loosen the cables. Make sure you do them both the same, otherwise the balance will be out. If you do the nuts right up and it is still too slack, its probably time for new rear shoes!!

Before you make any adjustment to the cables, you MUST make sure that everything in the rear brake drums is working correctly, if for example the auto adjusters are not working, you will mess the braking up even more if all that you do is tighten the cables.

Also, if you do tighten the cables without first checking inside the drums, you will not be able to set up the brakes at a later date until you have slackened off the cables again.
