Road Users

Featured Replies

Never had a problem with horses before, always went round them slow. And they've showed me.respect.

But on the subject of horses, I'm currently doing security work. So I'm up all through the night; and I.was sitting and suddenly I heard, clip clop clip. So I went to the window, to my surprise there is a gypsy riding one of those massive shire horses at 3 in the morning. Then a car suddenly loomed up behind it.

Anyways, what annoys me about other road users is those who decide to take things into their own hands, like the other week I was driving to Carlisle. And as some know you get to a point where there isn't allot of overtaking spots, so when I come up to a dual carriageway and I'm behind a Range Rover doing 50 I go to.overtake, he decides he doesn't fancy letting me do this. So accelerates, and I'm in a 1.3 so no power on my behalf, so I've ran out of room by the time to get up to overtaking speed. And now he's blocked the road and he's back down to 50.

I enjoyed that rant.

i drive on the road

i only slow down for horses to look at the rider. if shes fit i slow down then pass her slowly. if shes an ugly fat thing i floor it!

Fair one!

And Jon, thats a fucking worry for EVERYONE!

There is also the car drivers that travel on the motorway slower than lorries. This should be an instant 3 points and a £60 fine. They force the lorries to overtake them, a truck won`t put up with anything slower than it. Anybody on the motorway bar HGV`s moving below 60mph should be fined and given points

My 895cc mk1 revs for shit over 60mph and drinks petrol so I stay at around 55 on motorways; giving 3 points is just idiotic. Who gives a shit if lorries have to overtake, there are 3 lanes for a reason?

Alot of attention on horses, are they REALLY the most annoying thing on the road to get so much attention?

My biggest hate, people who don't wave or nod 'thank you' when letting them pull out or have right off way.

Living in a big city, there are a lot of foreign born taxi drivers... Both black cabs and private hire... Now I'm not at all racist, just pointing out a trend that I have noticed when giving a taxi the right of way by pulling in on narrow roads, 9 times out of 10 they don't flash or wave thanks.. that 1 out of 10 that does thank me is usually a white driver. What gives? Little bit of polite driving never harmed anyone.

It's got to the point now that if i see a taxi i speed up so they have no choice but to pull in first.

Hard to see how such a small engined car can drink alot of petrol. Manufacturers design cars to be driven at least at the national speed limit otherwise it would be dangerous and a hazard.

The reason why I think it`s dangerous to travel at a speed below what lorries are travelling at is because a lorry can weigh upto 44 tonnes and if their ever involved in a crash it has a massive knock on and can easily be fatal. Keep them in lane one so they have to do less manouveres. If because an old retard or a geek watching the mpg is doing 50mph they`ll have to overtake as their delivery slots are timed

With the people who don`t acknowledge you if you`ve slowed to let them thru, I find that these sort of people are more common in big towns and cities. Out in the countryside I find people have better manners. I think people don`t acknowledge others because they themselves have been blanked so they think fcuk it. I judge people individually now, if they stop because of parked cars on their side of the road I`ll usually say thanks, if they only just decided to stop and were going to come thru then they`ll get ignored. It depends on them, at the end of the day if the hazard is on your side of the road you should stop, not to say it works like that though

I`ve got a new rant, Binmen!

Not the guys collecting the rubbish, they ignorant tw4t driving the wagon. I was on a road a couple of weeks ago and they were doing a collection, instead of stop past a parked car the guy stopped in the middle of the road blocking the road so nobody could pass. So what if the bin collectors have to walk an extra 4ft

I have a list of road users that have been marked

BMW drivers, particulary a white 3 series and any X5, cut people up, never indicate, never want another car in their way.

Taxi drivers, esp black cabs. Ignorant, never indicate, don`t stop for traffic lights

4x4`s, I`m bigger than you, I have a small cock so drive a big vehicle but never go off road

Binmen, stinking, ignorant barstool

Horse riders, move it or I`ll make it into some glue you toff

people who park at the ATM in supermarkets then do a full shop for 2 hrs

Cyclists who ride two or more abreast

Joggers, get in the park and off the road you red faced nonce

Dog walkers, walk the dog off the road whilst you carry a bag of it`s 5hit with you

Anybody other than me

People who slow down to look at flashing lights on the side of the road.

I always do this cos usually theres about a 3 mile pile up before i get to see the idiot who's been holding me up for the past 5 hours

There probably is some law aint there? I'm sure if you were on a horse n it took a fat dump infront of the 5-o you'd pick it up or atleast kick it in the hedge?

i just pick it with a shovel bag it and give it to my nan

Its the people who slow down to have look that are holding you up. Cardiff is terrible for it. Volvo with a flat tyre who's pulled OFF the road. Not in the way in the slightest and the traffic is doing 30 instead of 70.

Horses should only be allowed on public roads at specific times not at rush hour with some toffee nosed slut waving me past like she is the fooking queen.

You're not special becuase you are riding around on the streets like a gypsy with a credit card. So don't stare at me like I have given you a dirty sanchez just for driving around you and your mobile shit machine.

Its a 33yr old 895cc with 4 gears? Yes it can go the national speed limit, but my revs would be through the roof. It will only drink petrol if I start hitting 60+ and its revving high. Plus my tracking's slightly out so the whole car starts having a fit at anything over 65 haha.

^^^ when your car was designed motor ways weren't as popular as they are today and tbf it's a lot more of a town car than a motor way cruiser anyway. my mates just bought a 1978 mg midget and he thinks it'll struggle to do 80mph and that's a 1500cc, very few cars were built for out right speed back then, never mind little <1000cc town cars. i'm not surprised it drinks the fuel that high up the rev range

In the 70s most cars on the motorway were doing 30-60mph. Many were scary to drive at any speed and their braking distances passed various junctions. A MK1 Polo was new then, but many 40's 50's and 60's cars shared the road with it - cars like the Morris Oxford and Jowett Javelin were everywhere,so todays mentality wasn't yet conceived.

And 895cc x 6,000rpm = about the same as a 2.2L cruising at 2,400 rpm. Only, the 2.2 would be suffering less friction/drag.

Horses? They should get off the race track, just in case some four inch penis in a people carrier, large 4x4 or diesel Audi is anywhere nearby approaching. And if a car skids on horse shyte and kills the rider, the car driver should not face any charge. How about i shovel some onto my nearest stretch of bypass, see how long it takes for someone to act..

As far as cyclists go...

I'm a keen cyclist myself and i use the main roads an awful lot so my tyres don't get destroyed by pot holes if i was on a back road. I don't see how it can piss people off so much tbh. A bit of mutual cooperation is all it takes. Most people are considerate when it comes to going round me. If they leave me enough space and don't go round me stupid close or really quick then i put my hand up to say thanks, most of them flick the hazards for a second or two back. That's all it takes really, everyone's happy.

Also (and i'm not part of a group), people who cycle in a group - When they do that, i feel that it's safer for them to do so (in some cases). Think about it, it's just like coming up to a slow tractor. All you need to do is slow down, wait 10 seconds till the car coming past has gone, then go round as normal. Riding two abreast effectively makes them bigger, so it would encourage people to slow down and not risk going round them at high speeds or dangerously close because a car is coming the other way.

Having nothing better to do on a Sunday Morning, I have just spent the last half hour reading all the post on this thread.

Yes, there are loads of things that annoy me about driving, but it all boils down to one thing: Consideration for other road users, whether they be cyclists, horse riders pedestrians, bikers or motorists.

Horse riders that ride two abreast are simply being as inconsiderate as the motorist who roars passed a horse trying to 'bacon-slice' it. Same goes for cyclists.

I use the roads in several ways: I am a motorist (Landrover and Polo breadie), pedestrian (aren't we all at some time?) and horse rider and motorcyclist.

The same basic rules apply. However you use the road, keep a good lookout for other road users and remember that they have just as much right to be there as you do. A little patience and courtesy goes a long way: saying thanks to someone who pulls in to let you through, giving cyclists pedestrians and horses a wide berth, keeping a sensible distance between you and the person in front etc.

And yes, I agree that all motorists should have a test every five years or so to ensure they are still competent to drive. I have been driving for 47 years. During the last three years, two younger members of my family have passed their tests. They had professional driving lessons and boy, didn't I learn a lot!

A final note about hose shit. I live in a rural area. yes, you see hose muck on the road, and you don't want to run into it on a bike! However, there are plenty of farmers who hvae to lead their cows along the roads from grazing to milking and back, and cow shit is simply awful. Try getting that of the car when its dried on!

YES.

BMW drivers are ALL pricks. Not the type of prick that makes you think "That guys a prick, I wish I was like him", but the type of utter scumbag that I wouldn't even lower myself to spit on. I have such untold hatred for the people that drive these cars  I would love them all to crash and die.

They are a MUCH worse addition to the road than horses :x

Holy shit, I didn't know that becoming a Club Polo forum user suddenly means that you own the road!?!?!

I guess I better tell all those other c.unts to get the fuck off my road in case they annoy me or something terrible like that?

My brother drives an e30... a lot of people in polo's with bike carbs and dished wheel think they're driving race cars... as we found out when we nearly got taken off the road by some DubSc3ne Sickzorz guy...

point is, a bad driver is a bad driver, regardless of what they are sitting in, besides, with your mentality i cant see you being driver of the year 2011

Sorry I always forget to mention, this hatred doesn't really apply to E30 and earlier models. Drivers of those older models tend to actually love their car and aren't driving it to show some sort of self importance :-) Therefore you don't see many older BMW drivers treating other people on the road like crap! So I have no beef with them 8-)

If you thought that was me trying to be high and mighty because I have "Club Member" next to my name you are wrong. I meant anyone who uses club polo...

In my opinion it seems that people with modified cars (or just VW's in general) seem to think they are above other road users...

The funniest thing is though, the people who are being blamed for ruining driving in the UK most likely look at people in their rusty, low, loud sheds and just think "wow they look like right tits."

Theres a guy lives near me who drives a 6n. Its low, loud, has illegal poking wheels, covered in offensive stickers, and the guy driving it looks at everyone as though they all need to fuck off and die.

I made the mistake of not driving fast enough once, so he tried to overtake me in a small village and nearly killed himself, the people in the oncoming car and me.

And you lot are ranting about horses and cyclist? Fucking hell wake up from your dream worlds... Just because you can drive, doesn't mean you have gods given right to.

The roads are supplied for you to use them appropriately, and until there is a law stating that only cars and motorcycles can use roads, we might as well stop ranting and going ahead and just learn to fucking share what isn't yours anyway!

Agh shit, I done go goofed again and forgot I'm not allowed to voice my opinion, please forgive me

In my opinion.....

Guy that's not what I'm getting at here. I was then giving my opinion. Everyone can have their opinion, but to come onto a public forum and start saying that people who ride horses on roads are bastards etc is a bit too much of a personal attack.

My gf rides horses on roads sometimes, simply because wandering around in circles on fields is boring and no good for the horse as it needs proper exercise. So surely its understandable for me to completely disagree with people saying that they are dicks arses and all other sorts of crap.

All I'm really trying to say is; Live, and let live.
