Right, got bored at the weekend and sprayed my hub caps a cream colour. Still unsure as to if I will change it for Mars red or an orange colour instead.

Bolted my Fabia`s cone air filter on too as the screws on the stock air box are rusted solid and I just did it as a quick fix until i can sort a replacement induction kit out - if i keep the car and dont replace it with a TDi.

right, deffo keeping it just got a problem i need to sort out now.

Its using a lot of oil and when you start it it puffs out a big ball of blue smoke. Take it that it wants its oil changed but where the hell is the sump?

I can`t see it anywhere!

And is the oil filter under the black screw cap in the front of the engine just under the cover?

Sorry dumb-dumb qs but I haven't been able to find a manual for it anywhere!

need about 4 different haynes manuals for this car though... such a jumble of cars...

hum, wondering if it actually has a sump like the Golf Ryder we had did. It`s got a large metal holder up the front of the engine with "oil filter" stamped into it. Will be unscrewing it and putting the new filter in there when the car has cooled down.

Will the Cordoba Diesel Haynes manual cover my car? Assuming there is one!

Actually my engine is listed as being in the Golf Mk4 - its the AGP engine so its got a few more horses than normal!

If it is the AGP engine then you should be able to find the sump pretty easily. With the car warm. Get under the car and remove the lower plastic engine cover (few 10mm bolts/screws around the edge iic). Then you should see the sump with the drain plug on the back edge of it. If you cannot locate the sump at this point you need to quit and take it to a garage. If you see the sump then you can remove plug and drain oil. When replacing the sump plug use a new one with a new washer. They come as one part and VW always throw one in free for me.

The oil filter is a replaceable element that goes in the housing under the engine cover. Remove engine cover, remove the housing cap (you will probably need an oil filter tool to remove this). Take out the old filter and replace with the new one and replace the necessary o rings (No:3 and 3A in exploded diagram which will come with the filter if you buy from VW). Replace the cap (nice and tight but not overly so, should have a max torque written on side anyways). Fill car with oil. Done and done.

I would get your service parts from VW. It's not expensive and you know it will be right and of good quality.

Have been given the oil filter when I brought it. Will get the sump plug etc from VW at the weekend. Hoping that once I do this is gonna stop chucking out blue smoke when you start it.

And I`m hoping the blue smoke is just oil being burnt and not the sign of somehting more serious as the top of the engine is COVERED in a black mess that looks like oil mixed with flour or sugar. None of it is obviously new but there is a LOT of it!

Engine bay before an attempt to clean the 10 years worth of build-up off it! Not too bad for a quick ten mins I think.

And I know the air filter is slightly a pikey mod! given it a bit more grunt - and before i get "no it doesnt" - yes it does - I've tried it before with the stock air box and the air filter and its gained a bit more pace (never going to be able to set the world alight tho!) and revs much more happily.

Doubt the air filter was even changed on the last (possibly last several!) services as I refuse to believe the nuts can become as rust as they have in "just" 6,000 miles - they are so rusty most of them will need drilling out as they are completely shagged!

Well the `loon just got a sister. Just brought an X-reg wagon in blue - says its an AKL engine so think its the 75bhp one. Higher spec SE version so it has a lot of toys compared to the loon.

Bit of damage to it from where its been reversed into ages ago but should be easy to correct!

Well this is the new girl - ignore the dodgy bonnet, someone had reversed into it whilst the previous owner had it. And the watering can is from me trying to get rid of as much of the leaves and crap from the rain tray as possible.

Big block 1.6 engine, good for quite a bit of grunt!

No, unfortunately. Got a tilt/slide sunroof though - that took me ages to figure out how to work to make it slide back.

Found the drinks holder perfectly fits a regular-sized cola cup from KFC tonight - no more having to carry it in the door pokets and panic about it falling over!

Think it could have done with the 15s as well, seems a bit odd it has exactly the same size wheels (and tyres!!!) as my E model saloon! Would have thought being higher spec it would have got bigger wheels

Well its either the 2.0 (wish the EA113 2.0T was compatible without huge hassles!) or if I was feeling mad a lump from a Golf Vr. But I`m shit with a spanner so it would have to be something I could get done reasonably cheaply!

Want it to stay more of a sleeper whatever I do, so its not going silly low. That and there are some big speedbumps to get into my work (designed to make HGVs slow down) so dont wanna keep having to get new sumps!
