Maybe it is just me but the polo seemed quicker, maybe it was just the torque low down from the polo (1.4 8v 60bhp) but the corolla (1.4 vvti 95bhp) just doesnt seem to shift as well. Its not due a service for till july but but strangely i miss my polo and might get a 16v in the not to distant future....

The Corolla is ~150kg heavier according to Parkers and only has 14Nm extra torque, there's your problem. Also you'd probably have to rag the Corolla to see the extra power.
