1997 6n faulty electirc window & rear wiper

Featured Replies

Hi, the passenger windows of my wife's 1997 polo 6n has stopped working. Its has failed in the past but has been working ok for the last 3 years oddly enough. I think last time I just checked the siwtches and banged the door cards and it started to work but no such luck this time.

I have verified the switches in the dash are ok. When I use the switch I can hear the relay (or whatever it might be) clicking in the door so I know the swithes and cables are ok but I don't get any activity from the motor. Can anyone take an confirm the faulty item so I can look for a spare on ebay or any other supplier people could recommend?

And another...

The rear wiper has suddenly stopped working. Seen a few threds about the washer leaking onto the motor which stops it working. Is there anything else I should check or should I just buy another motor & problem sorted? Washer works ok, fuse is ok, connection to the motor is ok, just absolutely nothing when pushing the wiper stalk.

Many thanks

My rear wiper did this.

Fiddle around with the relay in the fusebox, mine turned out to be the connection at the back of the relay, just moved the wires around!

Think it's relay number 74...push the switch in and fiddle around with the wires and wait to see if it works!

the window mechs do fail on these after a time, some thing to do with the metal cable wearing through some thing over time. your best bet would be to remove the door card and maybe even the window mech and see if you can see any faults or damage. failing that it you have it out run a couple of wires from the terminals to a batter to se if there is any movement.

how many door is the polo? i have both front electric window mechs from a 6n polo that you could have for £20 (£25 posted) if the mech turns out to be faulty. i know you only need one but at least you'd have a spare for the other side

Thanks McL. We have a 3 door polo 97 P reg. If I think I need them I will drop you a PM..

I will have a look behind the door cards possibly this weekend to see if anything obvious. I don't have any wires though to try the motor off the battery but might have to try and track some down...
