Hey Guys, after having my chassis notch i've finally dropped my car so i have no more coils left.

Current 'spec':

165/45/15-7j, Rokkor coils, no helpers, all the way down, bumpstops cut in half.

I just find myself bottoming out on a lot of stuff, i plan on getting my exhaust and stuff tucked but like chassis/bottom arms, when i don't see a pothole or something, it makes the worst noises? Do i just live with this? how unsafe it is e.g. how much can it take before it totally dies?

edit: i'm not trying to be like 'yeah mate my cars lower dan urs init' i'm just wondering if people live with this running a low car?

your car must be on the deck

you could end up ribbing the sump out or cause some damage under neath.

mine wasnt anywhere near as low as yours (on 195/45/15's) and basicaly just on the limit of low without a notch.

my subframe was starting to ground out on lanes just going over bumps etc, speedbumps and everything, i raised it as was worried about my sump and was just a general pain in the arse.

tbh once your suspension arms are past being horizontal its not ideal, but all for looking cool hey.

must just have to live with it tbh? unless you can raise your engine and subframe etc?

may also be worth relaxing your bushes mate as they should be torqued up a ride height and its significantly different to standard lol.

nah the sump is pretty tucked up, bottom arm is protecting it anyway

but idk how much the bottom of it can take!

Will a few mm make a difference though? surely itll have to be like 10-20?

basically, you know on your front bottom arms, and rear beam, there are bolts that mount them yeah, through the bushes (rubber things )

the front arms, the front bolts are tightened up, which like, locks the bush in place, meaning as it twists with the movement of the suspension arm it loads the bush up, but being lowered loads, its most likely to be out of its designed range or movement and thats only the begininning of your actual movement, so basically if you slacken off the front bolts, under the weight of the car, the bushes will 'relax' so they're will be no tension or twist on them, then if you tighten them back up at your ride height it will be better for the bushes etc.

and i raised mine 20mm on the adjustors the other day, effected the height by about 10-15mm but my god its made it so much more comfortable and practical, but i know i can still drop it when i fancy it :)

Yeahhhh, well before i got my notch i raised it like 20/30mm and it was such a good ride ahha, but i worry that like, imagine if i had to go down a country lane with mud up the middle? cause like the road to santa pod is shocking!! proper high in the centre!?

Yeah I know what you mean about cambered roads, the lane to my mates house is horrible, the centre of the road must be a good 2/3 inches higher than the sides, I have to crawl in 1st over most of it, trying to get the centre of my car over the hump so I don't catch the wishbone arm things, but I still hit them every time lol.

+ my car isn't nearly as low as yours, you actually wouldn't be able to get your car down there lol.

he has to be brought up, how scott is on 14's and his car is still a lot lower than mine, it's actually almost funny, i don't get it!!

mine rubbed the road for a year before it rubbed a hole through the floorpan, but then it was a mk3 and there was no protection, i.e a subframe in the way

so i can use the subframe as protection :p?

depends what sort of protection you have in mind, for example it should help protect your sump from the road but i doubt it would protect you against AIDs.

Prox - yeah it's causing damage but it's only getting scratched. You have to hit it very hard to bend/crack anything properly.

I think when you have it that low you have to expect all this. When mine was lowered max on coilovers (helpers in and no notches) it was plenty low enough and got to the point where I had to take them off - the roads are really bad near where I live and my drive is about 300meters of pure potholes.

I think it all depends where you have to go, in an ideal world I would slam it and live somewhere smooooooooth!

prox take a step back for a second and think about what you are asking...

or there's an experiment you could do to find out the answer. remove a fork from your cutlery draw, take it out side and find a fairly big bit of stone (some thing like a part of a slab will do), after placing the fork on the path repeatedly idiot it with the rock.

yeeah man i usually say you cant go too low.

but i have to make an exeption in this case. if you cannot drive your car over cats eyes without it catching then i would say your car is not just stupidly low i would say its dangerous.

respect for putting the effort in, you have had the lows for a while now. maybe its time to be a bit more sensible and raise your car until you can put up with it.

for example 10mm at a atime until your happy.

just a suggestion.

Also may i add, theangle of your wishbone arms must be crazy.

I've always lowered a car enough so i can drive it how i want to drive it. Which at times is spirited.

I dont want to be bottoming out cornering hard or clipping cats eyes.

Yes it looks cool. But fuck that for having a functional car and one i enjoy to drive.

If it was me id put some 185 or 195 45's on. Fill the arches without the need to skim the floor.
