Quite fancy trying this. Anyone done? Assuming it's not a straight bolt in?...

Not in the slightest bit straight fit, get cutting and find out..

helpful...

They fit into a slot about the same width as the radio cage but are nearer half the height. On Golfs the retaining clips are on either side, if you were going to sacrifice your radio (which I doubt) you could just make up some kind of bracket/shelf to hold the unit in there. If not you'll need to cut out an opening of the same dimensions and find a way to secure it, making sure there is enough depth obviously.

Best thing to do is get hold of one and have a play, unless there is someone who's already done it and taken some progress pictures or something

Personally I'd probably go the route of replacing the lower centre console / gearstick surround for the one with cup holders in - *think* they were in a few arosas and possibly some of the vans based on the same platform.

EDIT:

Using the search this came up.. it's out of a Caddy but will fit right into the polo

Cheers for reply mate :-) was thinking of it in the cubby hole above ash tray? Think it's where other polos have electric window switches etc? That caddy set up would be ideal, except there is nothing behind it just carpet? Where as polo has plastic right to dash.

What model/ year caddy or arosa mate?

Mark.

Not sure, I just did a forum search for cup holders, loads of stuff should come up and it might be in one of those topics!

Yeah that cubby hole would work, few people have fitted them there in cars with manual windows.

What I always planned to do was the caddy console and the bit from the polo that goes directly under the centre, I'm sure with some modifications it could be made to look pretty neat

I will be putting cup holders in a 6n soon, and will show how.

Haven't decided how yet but i expect they'll be ugly ones for tall drinks like the Caddy, instead of discrete pop-out ones for smaller drinks.
