Is it illegal to put a lorry horn onto a car.

Owned my car almost 2 years now and beggining to get fed up of its really gay horn.....and yes i know i could just go for a normal horn but fancy a lorry horn, but dont want to find i get pulled over by the police and fined or something along those lines for having it on the car!

do you not need a big compresser for lorry and train horns? I've had air horns and a klaxon and never had any issues with the cops

I would think the noise regulations would be universal across all road vehicles although like Jaco2a said, you would need a compressor if it''s airhorns you are after. If it's regular horns they should be easier to fit.

MK3 golf horns are less gay, thats what I'm putting on mine

i have a horn form an old vw camper put it on cos it sounds like a high pitched fart the guys at the garage tought it was funny

I got the £6.50 cheap snail horns off ebay, wired them to a completely seperate switch in the dash so i have my normal car horn, and the other set for when and where i need them

Just dont honk at police cars?

I think this would get people out of the way.

How big is the compressor thats needed for lorry horns?? The only reason I haven't gone out and bought an air horn off ebay or something is because a matey of mine has too big shiney lorry horns that fir perfectly under my front bumper

Depends how big the horn is and how long you want the horn to hold a note for really. I would suggest a fairly small one, I doubt you would need to use the horn for more than a few breif moments at a time.

typically speaking, the bigger the vehicle, the beefier the horn... so i'm assuming that if there's a legal issue then that's why

Get a fabia or mk4 golf one, they are a bit meatier.

There all bloody useless on bin trucks mate although saying that the truck we were in earlier had a bloody loud one Still sounded crappy mind.

yeah, trucks are 24v (as i found out by melting coolbox!) although you could still use a 12v supply as there'd most likely be a stepper behind the dash of the truck to drop the voltage.

I looked into getting a different horn for my MK2, also toyed with the idea of a truck horn or 10. but i decided i quite like the horn it has =P

I know a couple of guys who have train horns.

They run a small "air brush" type compressor in the boot.

Bloody loud.
