Dude, its your car, do what you want to it, if you're after acceptance from everyone, well that just plain aint gonna happen, no matter what you do, some people will love it and some will hate it, if you like it, thats all that matters really.

rust and dents don't make a rat look car tho tobes, matt paint does. at least that's what i can gather from all the photos of rat look polo's i've seen?
