I'm assuming it's not just me! Always fixing others and not your own!

A prime example being last night, trying to get a nap in between jobs, next door neighbour rings informing me his nearside driveshaft had popped out on his mk2f on a local dual carrigeway. Cue me bowling over with a spare, ended up pushing into a side street and changing it by the side of the road, thankfully, all the bolts came undone, and even managed to get the ball joint out with an extension bar!

I guess i cant really complain, as i always have a supply of beer

I'm getting asked to do all sorts off people at work lately, dont get chance to work on my own car! even the courier driver that delivers parcels has been asking me about the starter motor on his transit this week

I have this same problem, i dont really do it as much now as its my day job and it all gets a bit much 24/7

I'm going to start saying no a lot more too

I'm usually the useless idiot who hasn't a clue and calls out mates! - (i really need to take a mechanics course for dummies this summer)

Always make sure i give them something in return, help me and i try and give something back!

My across the road neighbour (quite an old lady 70+) has come over asking a few things..

Recent things include: how to turn the radio off (her daughter turned it on when she borrowed the car), how to adjust the wing mirror, and if I could kindly lift a bag of compost out the boot

You've got to be,or you'll be wiping people's arses forever. I do it for mates,and it pisses me off to hear people being mugged off of 600 quid for an exhaust. A mate has just paid two grand for a cambelt failure on his 1.6 A2. These people know they should've came to me but i disuade it tbh. I have enough problems without being the local spanner monkey, i only take on anything when it suits me.

i end up doing this a lot. quite often tho i dont charge people that have a trade behind them, so i can make sure i get a favour later on

There's rarly a day that goes buy that someone near me doesnt asks for car help on this estate, thing is I'm not the best mechanic, and only no the basics. I always say I'm no profesional but I'm always under randomers cars.

Recently did a cambelt failure on french pile of shite Megan, right pain in the arse and took over 3 days because of the owner draging it out.

"The head needs 4 new valves and skiming", Ok can you do that? .........

In all she ended up buying lots of new parts for the car including a minor head rebuild costing £400 altogether, I boshed it all back together and it still ran like shite, She took it to Renult and the said its fried its ECU?, so she bought a new Scienic and got £200 for the megan

Wanst to bad in the end, she gave me the tourqe wrench and £50

Same here. I was asking people alot when things on the car were going on but now i think fuck it and attack it myself. as long as i roughly know what I'm doing then i'll give it a go these days (like the turbo conversion on my car!!!)

I find it hard to say no to other people as well. Mates are mates and in times of need, we always hope that they'll be there to help. In the past i've helped lots of people with odd jobs (not car related) but these days i'll show them what needs to be done and then they're more than ready for next time it happens.
