Ok, several problems with my car audio. Mainly that it doesn't work. I know nothing when it comes to car electrics (mechanical knowledge limited aswell) so when I got my car a few months back and my uncle drove it on trade plates because it was sorn And hadn't been driven for about 6 months, he says the radio was on the whole 4-5 miles that he drove anyway got it home and the same day I returned from College on my trusty moped (LOL) and the headunit doesn't appear to work and still doesn't. There is no display on the unit at all and shows a blank screen (Yes I have I tried the classic solution of turning it on and off!)

I have no clue what is wrong and advice would be greatly appreciated!! As silence is very annoying and a 1.3 engine isn't all that attractive either. I have a feeling it's a fuse problem

Or something more serious or basic? If it's a fuse problem how do I check this? I do know where the fuse box is but don't have a clue which fuse it is or anything

Also I have another problem with the head unit because I have purchased a new head unit i was going to attempt to fit it to rectify the currently unworking one. I have read that on the blaupunkt boston there is a levar which allows It to be removed or something. However my model is the blaupunkt windsor and I cannot see any levar on this model, I have browsed for information on how to remove but can't find any on how to remove it. Knives and flatheads don't work and just damage the surround :(

Please I would appreciate all advise available for these issues!

Hi again. Does the cigarette lighter work? If it doesnt then you probablly could just have a blown fuse, as the lighter and stereo both share the same fuse. Fuse no. 11. The bottom row in the fusebox, labeled in tiny writing as F11.

On the subject of removing the unit, you need the stereo 'keys' i believe, but obvoiusly dont hve them. I have used knives with success on mine when removing my old unit.

The unit sits in a cage, and you need to push the knives between the unit and the cage. While the knives are stuck in the sides, reach up behind the dash and push on the back of the unit.

If the fuse is ok, it means the battery has been off and the anti theft setting on the unit has activated. This means it wont work unless the security code has been entered, assuming you dont have it, or the manual for the stereo, your only option to make it work, would be a VW main dealer, who may be able to help. This is unlikely due to how old the stereo is, and the fact they are only interested in selling you a new car

get 2 jubilee clips open them up and slide 1 each side, works a treat

Fuse is now replaced, so i now have something to listen to :)

Nope halfords won't do it without a receipt because of insurance and the only decent audio place by me is in Cheltenham which is missions as the one in my city closed

Alright after much persuasion the standard unit is out! However the plugs that came with the unit down fit the standard one? Do I need a universal adapter?!

You need an iso lead adapter mate, look for one for your year polo on ebay, paid about £7 for mine. Depending on the model you may need an ariel adaptor which are a couple of quid too.

what type of connector do you have on the car? is it a brown and a black connector with eight pins in each? or is it something different.

also on the headunit, does it have a similar lay out? 2 sockets with 8 pins in each?

just asking as maybe the head unit might need a special harness and not the car.

sounds like you need an adaptor mate, can have mine for a fiver. Save you the wiring
