6n throttle cable adjustment problems...

Hello again!

My throttle pedal is feeling really spongey and unresponsive. I'm trying to adjust the throttle cable but it still feels slack.

I can see in Haynes that you adjust it by moving the metal clip further along the plastic ribs, but which way? When I adjust it it makes no noticeable difference to the trottle pedal.

The throttle pedal can be lifted about half inch from its top position if you hook your foot underneath it. Is this normal? or does it sound like mine is kaput?

cheers russ

ah i've just done it now! :) :)

I was adjusting it all wrong. Previously I had been lifting the grommet out of the slot/ fork and then pulling it away from the throttle body but keeping the cable slack. DOh.

If anyone is interested here's how I did it:

1. Unclip the the metal lock tab (small piece of pressed steel), take it right off

2. Lift the rubber grommet out of slot to free it up

3. Press rubber grommet back in the slot making sure its pushed down firmly

4. Grab the ribbed plastic throttle cable sleeve thats on the right of the rubber grommet and pull it to the right so that it takes up the slack and ever so slightly just starts to move the throttle butterfly (metal disc in throttle body)

5. Keep the tension by pulling to the right and then re fit the metal locking palte into the rib that is closet (touching if possible) to the rubber grommet.

6. Voila! Fire the Polo up and watch in amazement as it actually feels responsive for once!

Hopefully this might be useful to a novice like me as the Haynes doesn't really explain all that well :(
