Ok iv been havin a bit of trouble ever since i had the car with gearboxs so decided to buy a renforced box

Now i noticed a little oil leak mid week and the selector seal had gone so this was changed and as the box was actin notchy i asked for my gearlinks to be sorted out

Now the box is actin very notchy, even tho oil levels r good, links been done and seal fixed

When I'm engaging second is the worse I'm constantly fighting with it

The only way to describe at its worse is like it goes into gears in two stages, its not loud crunchin but i can defo feel it in my hand

Any ideas?

Maybe the lack of oil for that short time has killed the syncro rings?

Describe what it's doing when u try and put it in to gear? As I have a mk 2 with a shagged 2nd syncro

Also any whirring or odd noises?

Ok so when the car is in netural all sounds fine, when its driving it sounds fine, but when i engage second gear... Its like it goes into gear, then it goes in again and it does this in fourth sometimes as well

Its like, I'm fightin with the box to put it in gear sometimes like release the clutch and really put some arm to put it in gear, its under warranty but a flippin mission to the place,

Its strange before it was okish not as bad as it is now from when it had tgat selector seal done...

I take it the syncro rings r internal???

does sound like its letting you in the gear gate but not actually letting the gears touch, if u can feel the gears clunk to together than its defo a meshing problem of some sort.

as it was like this before but not as bad it makes me think the sycro rings were worn any way and the lack of oil has gave them a beating. but its also possible the gearlinkages has been replaced badly and its just not lining the gears up right.

i would change the gearbox oil again just for a possible cheap fix.

also try double clutching into the problem gears, before selecting the gear put it in neatrol for a few seconds if it then slots into gear fine then its the syncro rings that are shgged.

also keep in find that if it is clunking it to gear with a noise or evn a harsh feel through the gearstick, every time it does it u slowly wear the gear.

and yup they are internal

Id say if it wont go in properly, ill pop it in netural then try again n itl go in still clunky tho,

So when its wearin this gear will it just shag the box

Up? Its weird i might get a second look at it as its under warranty its just a mission for me to travel :(

Basically ye, mine stared as a clunky 2nd and is now a clunky and loud whining 2nd lol

Not too much o worry about for now tho if it's silent now it's gonna solider on for a while, maybe a gd idea to keep double clutching to prolong it life, if it goes in better

A little more info on the box when its been drove for say 30 mins it seems less notchy and if i take my time changing gears and engagin tge clutch longer it seems smoother :/ although this does not eliminate the problem
