I have just bought my brothers 1.0L mk3 genesis that he has had for the last year. looks a bit of a dog at the moment but I have already started stripping it ready for some cosmetic surgery lol but the main thing is that all the important places are all still in good nick its all only surface rust.

Plans are as follows.......

Full colour change

Deck it

wheels

sort out lights/indicators

and depending how carried away I get the engine bay could have a spot of work :-D

I only bought it as he was going to scrap it, and I though I could use it as a run arround instead of my mk4 golf but after one day of ownership it allready has no bumpers/lights/grill/trim as I have started stripping it ready for the colour change!

Looks like it will make a good project, any ideas exacly what direction your going with the paint job? DIY or a professional job? and colours, maybe get a GT arch kit on it would make it look quite good when its all sprayed up unless your looking to de-strip it!

already got the gt arch kit lol the day before I bought the car, off a friend for the price of a pint!

yeah I have a few ideas for the colour but nothing thats 100% yet, I will be doing the respray with the help of a friend who has sprayed other cars in the past plus my garage is big enough for 3 cars so we are lucky enough to have the space to set up a booth :)

Not sure if I want just the arch kit and no other trim yet or all the trim, I think the colour will play a big factor in how the trim will look, so I will see how it all works out!

Well started taking a few things off tonight and this is how she stands at the moment but not much done tbh as I was also working on my mk4 golf :-D then ran out of time as the girlfriend came home!

oh and the garage needs one hell of a clean!! lol

went to a friends lock up today and "found" a few parts for the polo :)

I got 2 chrome door handles, a window wiper stalk, and audi steering wheel airbag (for my mk4) and a set of 4 P slots in 14" all for a very good price! wheels do need a major refurb tho, but I was going to spray them a little different anyway so its not too much of a problem. I will get pics up tomorrow

I had a day off today (no work ) so thought I would make (another lol) a strat on the polo, but after opening the garage door and seeing the mess it made more sense to give it a clean, anyway the best part of 8 hours and 2 trailer loads to the tip we finnaly have a clean workspace

It is so much bigger now lol can you spot the polo?

also I can get my mk4 in aswel, oh and look ther is space for another car! :p

Inbetween brusching and moving things I also got chance to remove the gutter trim on the coupe and fit the mk2 golf chrome door handles, next job tonight is to remove the center console I think, any tips?

Went out and took my center console out, I then fitted a peice of carpet into the hole arround the gear stick and tucked it into the surrounding carpet then used sone interior trim adhesive to stick the oem gear gaitor back down to the floor, looks good imho nice and stok, also madesure it worked while in gears like 1st 4th and reverse and it all holds together nice

And this is how it sits while in nutral, not too keen on the angle of the boss but not sure if that is because its been stretched or if it sat like that before lol!

off topic here but where did you get the thule wind guard from on your mk4 if you dont mind me asking?

The US mate not cheap lol they sound a good price then they hit you with postage then inport tax which nearly doubled the cost of the flipping thing! have a look on ebay its where I got mine from :)

we sprayed the boot today the colour the car is eventually going, and tbh the results where good will post up some pics when I get a min!

Bloody hell size of that garage bigger then my HOUSE!

Thanks mate but I must stress that its my dads not mine.

and hears a pic of the colour, which was just a test, we used a spray can and no primer it had 1 coat as thats all we had in the can THIS IS ONLY A TEST NOT HOW THE CAR WILL BE DONE! but the results where great I thought. The pictures do make it look a lot less brown than it actually is.

I know but it is brown lol the pictures make it look red and when its outside it is brown :)

and tbh that was my first thought but when it was wet it looked like red oxide paint!!!

I thought I would pop some pictures up of what else I did yesterday, this is after removing the rubstrips and mirrors......

I removed the gutter trim and gave it damn good scrub!

As I'm still not in work today I hape to strip the front end and finish off the near side and then make a start on the interior :)

offside door and wing are off and OMG how hard is it to take the wing off after 18 years of crud has accumilated inside them! I used a heat gun to melt away the sealer that held the wing inplace which helped alot :)
