full mk1-2-3 AFH conversion

Featured Replies

This is just a feeler at the min to see if there is any interest, its still in the car and in daily use so any one interested can test drive it.

This is the set up that's in my mk3, its running the Afh injection set up and will come with every thing needed to fit this in to an early polo, this will consist of

Full engine setup with all bolt on bits attached including the mk4 alternator and correct alt belt.

All wiring needed (loom, fusebox, immob, ect) this will just need 5 wires splicing into your car loom (3 at the ignition, 1 for rev counter, one for fuel pump live... very straight forward).

Inline fuel pump running golf GTI pump

Full exhaust system, no cat its a mix and match affair but performs well and gives it a nice bark

All engine mounts

5 speed gearbox BUT this has just started to occasionally pop out of 3rd and 5th and the release bearing is noisy, this could be some thing as simple as needing an oil change, or it could be the first signs of the gearbox shitting itself, I don't know. this is just a normal 8p box found on a lot of early polos so the chances are if your car is a 5 speed it already has the same box any way.

If going into a mk1 I believe the drive shafts are different (?) It won't come with these as they have been modified to work with my mk1 golf coilovers set up so wouldn't fit on standard polo hubs anyway

Now for the price, I'm asking £400 for this which when you consider people are asking this for pretty much bare engines is a bit of a bargain. All the hard part of the wiring is done and this is as close as plug and play as you will ever get with this conversion. This engine was rolling roaded in my mk3 and gave 90bhp at the wheels (about 110 at the fly) which in a little old polo is more than enough to put a smile on your face

dont u have to get a diffrent fuel tank on a mk1/2? because of injection?

No you can just remove the main pump from the inline set up and run it under the bonnet using the gravity feed of the earlier tanks to feed it. This is what I've done on my mk2 and Higgo has done the same on his mk1. You only need it on the mk3 tanks due to the fact it has to lift it out through the top of the tank, the earlier take it from the bottom

Although if a buyer wants the tank, lifter pump and fuel lines they are welcome to them

No idea on the mpg mate, I tend to stick £15 a week in on average but I'm not even sure how many miles I do a week, probably not that many but its mostly short journeys through Nuneaton's army of traffic lights

haha fair play dude!

ooo very interested in this..

i work in leicester quite often, so should be easy to collect etc.. would be going into a 1983 polo GL bready. when are you looking to shift this as its a feeler and I'm going away in just 10 days for 2 weeks stateside then a week in glasto so pretty useless until the end of the month.

would there be issues with fitting a 5speed box into a 4 speed car?

Well as soon as my mk2 is taxed and tested this will be available which I'm hoping will be in the next week but that depends how the test drive goes later tbh, I'm still not sure exactly how 'ready' it is for the test

Only thing I can think of is the anti roll bar and gearbox mount needing changing mate but I'm happy to chuck these and any other bits needed for the conversion in with it

where are you located? cheers

I really couldn't resist putting something decent in the other Derby, that blat in yours has cost me plenty! Apparently our Isobel's buying me the AFH for fathers day, not bad for a five month old eh?
