gareths abdgt

Featured Replies

right bin on here a while now and thought i would put up a build thread of my lil mk3 bessy. heres an intro to how the car got to where it is now.

Back in sept 09 i took the car off the road ready for the abdgt conversion, i sent the engine off for a full rebuild and gave the car some loving at the same time(pictures will explain as i no everyone loves piks), after the bad snow we had in the winter i along with mates put the engine in and got it running only to hear a nice tractor noise from the engine upon inspection the engine rebuilders had put a piston in wrong and timed it up wrong too (3 teeth out) so out came the engine and i took it through to the rebuilders where they stripped it down again and rebuilt it, so the 2nd time round we put it in an fired it up it sounded as sweet as a nut :D from then on its got better and better starting off with a 17.1 quarter mile to now a 16.3 coming 2nd in my class at york betting civics, corsas and mg's.

Heres the spec list that i can remember:

1.4 adbgt (fully rebuilt twice lol)

port and polished head

ported and dewedged throttle body

golf gti afm and K@N induction kit

ppp GT chip (which yet needs setting up to the car)

8mm manecor HT leads

TA technixs 4 branch

TA technix full stainless system

this managed 72bhp at the wheels with a faulty ecu (revs died at 3000rpm) so hopefully itll make abit more next time

Chasis and interior:

pps stage 3 subframe with gearbox mount

pps coilovers at front

Gaz coilovers at rear

vw2 calipers

black diamond grooved discs and pads

goodridge brake flexis

13 x 7 wheller wheels with 175/50 yoko a539 tyres

rear strut brace between struts

rear strut brace on top of suspension

flocked dash

carrado seats

3 point harnesses

fully ripped out interior (spare wheel well is going soon too)

sorry for the life story heres the piks from the beginin:

  • Author

if i dropped it 40mm i wounldnt get over the bumps with my subframe thats the downside to having it fitted haha

i run a 16.3 with my ppp chip not setup to the car and it was as damp as hell after it pissed it down but still i am pleased

well lets say his gearbox didnt want to play ball at all, straight after where you warm the tires up it just through the teddy out of the cot lol he ran a 14.3 last weekend so we both improved with our timings as the time before he got a 14.7 and i got a 17.1 where as this time i got a 16.3. think we will be there in august bank holiday one as its my bday so there should be alot of us there camping

Awesome little weapon on your hands there Gareth. Some impressive times and a very impressive spec list, always wanted to run my ABD at a quarter mile, but I was too much of a girl to do it!!! Will you be rolling roading it again now with the new Ecu up and running?? I would imagine it will make some decnt power, and equally decent torque being an ABD block. I like it.

couple of updates i went and baught a carbon fibre bonnet last weekend bobbed it on and took her for rr'ing it pulled 87bhp and drives as sweet as a nut now, got a friend on with the perspex windows if there a good fit al let you lot know and if anyone wants any let me know. future plans a running bike carbs, vernier pulley and big valve head just to try it out

went to bugjam this weekend and what an epic weekend it was. enjoyed the sun, dubs and beer. I took the car down the strip a fair few times and the best i got was a 16.2 which is my best time so fair. I also got interviewed by euro sports tv filming crew which made my weekend, they picked so many vw's to interview and they must of liked mine so i may be bigging up the humble mk3 polo in the middle of august:D will get pictures up when blacket photography upload there piks. will also get a few videos up when the better half shows me how to do it. i meet a few people with mk2-3 polos which it as nice to see more people there than last time with polos
