I'm stripping all the damaged parts off now.

and what if the chassis is still pretty much as it was? would you still recommend breaking it?

hmm .. if it was me... i would have a look round the rest of the car.. see how clean it is, get online and price up replacing all your suspension for the driver side.. new wing.. lights.. bonnet.. slam pannel basically all the parts i would need.. (id do everything on the running gear just to be safe as some things might of bent even just 2-3mm but 2-3mm can be alot when tracking the car ect...) and if i could afford it get on with it (if the car was clean and i wanted too keep a nice car on the road) if it was a nice car but i couldnt afford it, id buy a shit box for £100 and have it as a project ..

well i'm still insured on the car for another year which would be a complete waste and it still has about 11 months MOT.

I think i'm just gonna do my best to fix it up.

looking at that pic there it looks like your inner wing has crumpled downwards which isn't good because that kinda suggests that the chassis leg that runs along the back of it may also be bent down which could be causing the arb to sit further down and maybe even back, this in turn could be what is making the wheel sit so far back in the arch. if that's the case mate then unfortunately it's terminal

Is there any way i can see for certain if this is the case? cuz i really hope not as that would mean alot of time and money wasted.

would also say its past fixing looking at the crease in the inner wing, as its highly likely the chassis leg has moved too. the fact the door doesnt open and close doesnt bode well either.

That is well fucked mate,you should know the front wheel is pushed like 2-3 inches back as a result of the ARB being pushed back and the chassis leg is split right open.

The ill-fitting door suggests the frame has stretched,and that's real bad.

It'll take a re-shell or proper jigging to sort. The latter will cost many times the worth of a shell to do properly,and even then it will never be right.

Any chance of getting the corner on a Google earth screen print? I'll show you the warning signs you've clearly missed..

if thers a ripple in roof, i'd cut your losses because its had a hard wack buy another that needs a little work and use her for parts if money is tight

The door droping pretty much guarantees the A pillar is deformed. Personally, I wouldn't chance it.

They do bend pretty easily these early polos.

I'd find a spares / repairs donor shell and just make 1 good car out of the 2. Then sell any surplus parts and get some of your money back.

You'll pick one up for next to nout with no MOT and scruffy looking.

Decided a couple of days ago i'm gonna strip this, sell what I can, buy a mk3 loon shell (if i can find one) and transplant the engine in this one.

Then just change the car on the policy.

well, it's just the standard 1.0L one.

i was gonna take it out and give it a proper clean and rebuild it.

mainly to get to know about engines seeing as this is still my first car

Yeah,there are alarm bells jumping out at me everywhere,and not the sort of signs you're looking for.

Apart from the side marker posts,of course.

There is a directly connected footpath,and buildings,so this isn't a road id be giving it 60mph down. If not 40, id be thinking 30.

Then the big one - long stripes in the middle of the road. These are your main guide,and the ones there are telling you that there is an impending hazard.

Those long stripes alone would've had me on my toes,as they do.

But yeah,the bushes dont help but conceal what is a tight little corner. There are a couple like that around here and the usual boomerang in the red triangle,stating an impending corner,doesn't quite stress how tight you can expect.

I did the same near Luton in my first car,only cost me a wing/bumper/indicator because the car i clipped already had a dent in the doors and was being fixed by someone elses insurance anyway! But i learn't from it,and haven't underestimated the signs since - especially the lines in the road (expect to see them go long on approach to any hazard).

oh yer don't worry i've certainly learnt from it.

and yer the road was a 30, wasn't giving it big.

Old rule that works really well:

Always drive at such a speed that you can perform a normal stop on your side of the road in the distance that you can see to be clear.

Examples of road markings

I was given a driving tip for driving on country roads by Roger Clark (RAC Rally winner) to watch the hedgerow on the opposite side of the road and that way you can judge how tight a bend will be
