As the sub-title says, I'm not a fan of stretched tyres...and I'm not a fan of budget tyres either...as someone quite rightly said to me once...they're the last thing between your car and the road, so why compromise?

i must admit, i am a convert to using good tyres, now that i know the difference between ching chong specials and quality, i will always buy the best i can afford!

Same got shiters on never again but then again they were half the price !

I've had stretched tyres. Just to be cool but never on a car fast enough to do any damage.

When theres over 1.5 tonne of car sat on 4 of them. Its nice to know its quality rubber

but, as i said (probably in the post u saw) you cant drive a car with stretch hard, so kinda wheres the point in buying tyres that are good?

May aswell stretch shitters rather than good'uns, if your going for the 'I'm so fucking scene and my tyres are nowhere near the arch but I'm gunna stretch them anyway because people will think I'm cool' kinda look.

it's a fair point about stretching cheaper tyres...and i do appreciate there's a scene for it...but with a bit of oopmh and the right bend of corner...a lil bit of loutish driving around corners - surely there's a risk of any brand coming off?

mind u - i guess the shit tyre may break traction before the tyre comes off the rim, so maybe in that respect maybe its better to have a cheap tyre stretched

Oh yeah, theres every chance of it coming off. Thats why you cant drive a car properly with stretch.

I'll never understand the logic behind some cases of stretch. Sometimes it works and looks good, and also still drivable. But people take it to extremes for no given reason. And the latest craze is stretch when theres no need for it at all.

You stretch to get tyre under arch when your really low, no other reason...

i must have covered well over 30k in my years driving on stretched tyres and never had one pop off. However hard i tried to replicate the italian job with my driving style.

If you won't mount a kerb to get out the way of an ambulance or fire engine instantly, i think they should be automatically authorised to ram your vehicle out the way (or ram past) whatever the damage, and with no penalty. You loose any right to any financial assistance including compo/insurance.

Its not the case, but it should be imo.

I recently made the change from event tyres on the front and kumho ecstas on the rear to conti sportcontact2's all round and the difference is amazing (kumho's weren't bad) quieter, much more grip, more traction off the line and better braking performance. proper sized too 195/45r15.

Stretch for the sake of stretch is full on fucking stupid.

It has to be said, the manufacturers (all of them) , did'nt spend millions of pounds/euros/dollars on research in specifiying a wheel/tyre combo that would be dangerous under "normal/legal driving" So what makes a 17~25 year old with a year or two's A to B driving think he/she knows better and fit some wheel/tyre combo that does'nt legally fit under the arches, just because it "looks cool !!" and then winges and moans that they are paying ridiculous insurance prices.

Oversized wheel/tyre combos that need to run over spec negative camber to get them under the arches, need to consider that the negative camber will in effect reduce the tyre's surface contact area to less than that of the standard tyres it was delivered on!! making them handle less than was originally designed, but because you have wider tyres " it handles better than standard???" I'll agree better quality rubber is a definate advantage and not always is price a guide to quality!! some of the best tyres I had fitted were a "Road Rally" remoulds VR rated, under normal road driving gave around 5~10K and were well priced against Pirelli Z or Goodyear NCT's (£15 against £25~30 late 1990 prices!!)

I change my vehicles that much I only buy partworns, but I am bloody fussy about what partworns I use. I spent £45 on a pair of tyres for the van last week, which to be fair is **** all, but for my money I got a pair of Avons with at least two thirds tread left. If I bought new, that £45 would probably get my two thirds of a single, crap, budget tyre.

Even when i had full standard wheels and tyres i couldn't mount a kurb instantly because of been lowered?

Personally, I use my tyres as the only point of contact between my car and the road. Seeing as I do strange things like braking and driving round corners, I like that point of contact to be as good as possible.

More contact area = more grip.

I can brake good and i can corner very well on my stretched tyres
