"Starts and drives"

It's only got 3 wheels still attached and one of them is hanging off, there's no way that still drives

It's in no way worth what its uptown now in parts, I'd imagine people at going off the assumption that they can just pull every thing out of this car and bolt it into another polo, which isn't the case. The engine bay was modified quite extensively for that engine to bolt in, any car having this conversion would need the same custom fabrication doing to it.

If you want to do this conversion to your 1 litre you'd be best off starting from scratch because that's probably had the balls ripped out of it

Not as easy to just swap the engine over mate, this car had some serious work done to it!

Can't believe someone twated it..... Oh btw its a 6N Mk4 ;)

i thought he would of just modified the engine mounts to fit this engine?

are you saying that the chassis legs/ turrets have been chopped up and widened to fit this?

thanks

You'd have to ask someone who is experienced in that field mate but i know just by reading some of the VR6 project builds it aint easy.

sorry to hi jack the thread but whats it like fitting a vr6 into a mk2f coupe is it possible or is the bay too small/shallow

these threads get more common every week .. there should be a sticky somewhere that just says " any engine fits any car aslong as you are willing to pick up a grinder and welding torch if not your taking on a project too big for your boots and should give up now.. seriously do you think a 2.8 litre engine uses the same mounting points as your 1L 8 valve? "

sorry if you think I'm being inappropriately rude but is so annoying the amount of people who assume you can just bolt any engine to the polo engine mounts...

well tbf if this was a 1.3 mk2 golf you could pretty much bolt in a 2.8 v6. i think that's where the confusion comes from, in the golfs engines are easier interchangeable so i think people might presume the same is true for the polo's, which it isn't unfortunately

Far too much effort for the outcome....

As far as I'm aware they haven't been widened - however the engine mounts were essentially made from scratch by an expert fabricator

For a mk2f and a 6n what are the best options for convertion to get the most out of the engine and car to be worth the effort

Mk2f would be some form of 16v small block from a later polo or a G40

6n would probably be a 1.8 20vt

Obviously the 6n 20v isn't a cheap option by no means, but your gonna have a bit of a weapon at the end of it. A more budget option (in other words some thing you could do yourself if you can use a spanner) would be a 1.6 afh hybrid. Although this option wouldn't compare to a decent 20v set up, it is much more realistic in terms of cost and difficulty.

With this car, you have to realistically look at what you're getting and its a fair amount for the asking price...VR's usually go for £500 as complete conversions these days.

You're buying this car for several things:

mounts- find out how its mounted and replicate it in your own car- custom seam welded!

exhaust downpipe+complete system- this has to be worth a fair bit as well- custom welded!

The subframes- must either be using a mount at the front or two at the rear- custom welded!

The driveshafts- if these were properly made to spec to handle the bhp then these again are worth a lot of money! It costs £480+ to have a set of 6N shafts made to handle 350bhp with a 20vt...

the rest can be bought from a VR6 golf- engine, gearbox, fuel pump, wiring, clocks, rad/fan.

The only thing that puts me off this car is how bad the damage is on the passenger front corner- will you need another box/starter motor?

Would it.not be possible to put a 20v into a mk2f as I'm not arsed about fabrication and have a brother who has done this stuff before

for starters you need to ask yourself how much of that is still usable, secondly if you know some one that can copy all the custom stuff then you also know some one that could knock it up from scratch.

the work on this car looked solid, but it was far from pretty and it wasn't done by a professional, it was done by a bloke in a work shop who has mad pikeytech skill's (and that's not meant as an insult, it seems this chap can make any thing fit any thing using only his skills and his imagination).

the drive shafts for example iirc were the golf and polo items cut and welded together and the front engine mount was a piece of box section welded across the front with a mount on it.

you can pick up full mk3 vr6's for £500 then sell off what you don't need to get money back, you'd be paying at least double that for this polo and you'd still have to get a lot of the stuff remade. there's no way that front sub frame will be reusable, and depending on how far it travelled with not wheels on it would decide how much of the exhaust is still there

i'm not knocking the work done on this, but don't be confusing this with some thing that had a money no object conversion done to a massive spec. wasn't it still running 1.3 brakes?

haha i wrote all that without even looking at the guys build thread- perhaps with a bit of TLC things can be improved...not everyone can afford CNC machines, laser cut templated mounts...i'd say it was an inspiration of a thread though :) he threw himself in at the deep end and worked in that cramped garage or lock up- crazy!

Considering what i have seen and combining that with the latest crash photos i personally wouldn't bother...unless you get for a silly price.

sold for 500 quid

i think it was a bargin as the leathers worth 300 then u get all the mech's for 200 quid if u scrapped shell thats another 70 quid!!!

Says £850 on the add?

Most sensible thing I've read in a long time ;)

what a waste of a car, plus time effort etc
