Pete's 1.4 TDI

Featured Replies

After passing my test and driving a 1.0 6n for a year and a half i fancied a change for something a bit newer and faster (slightly), so bought a 2003 9n 1.4 TDI Sport.

So far I've de-badged and de-wipered the rear, added pressed plates, sprayed VW badges black, bought some new headlight bulbs, put on a stubby arial and lowered it on FK highsports. Also put in the headunit, sub and amp from my old car.

When I first got it :-)

De-badged and wipered.

Turns out that the fuel filter on the diesels is directly behind the drivers side headlight, so changing the bulb was a bit of a headache :?

Then came the coilies thanks to a very generous girlfriend :-D

Had a bit of hassle removing the original drivers side strut, which at one stage involved this pikey setup

Eventually managed to get them changed, and that brings it up to date for just now!

good work, looks like a serious set up you made yourself there getting the coils on :D

Looks good :) Pikeytech ftw

Haha yeah it was quite a setup, ended up getting it off using simpler techniques

today i took the adjusters out of the rear to try and get the back sitting a little better, its always fun jacking up on stone chips.

At first I didn't think it had made a difference but after going out for a drive it definitely sits better than before.

something like 16's or 17's will suit this nicely now ! Mirror polished is a win with blue :-)

  • Author

Yeah I've been looking at 16's, and totally agree about the mirror polishing!

small update, finally got round to getting a new sub so now have a working one in my boot again :-)

also had a bit of an impulse buy whilst bored yesterday and got a Leon Cupra R splitter for it. I'm still not sure if i like it. Apologies for the horribly over exposed picture, it was the only way it would actually show up!

Not updated this in a long time! Progress has been fairly slow but done a few little things, main one being getting my bumpstrips smoothed and colour coded thanks to my girlfriend for my birthday.

Then took the helpers out the front to drop it a bit further, went out for some photos with my mates 6n2 and girlfriends new R32.

Still desperately needs new wheels!

Looks smart, Colour codes look smooth, this suits sport wheels.

Did you spray the hole of your rear lights cuz they look pretty flat, but they look good..

  • Author

Yeah I sprayed the whole lights, since it was done the tint has faded where they used to be clear leaving them almost amber, but I like it so haven't sprayed them red again.

That explains it. Gessing you didn't lacked them? I haven't either but I would say put some protection:polish on them

  • Author

I didn't laquer them no, did give them a polish after though. I quite like them now they've faded

Fair enough mate. Nice ride

Well I had the day off today so decided to clean up my throttle body as my accelerator has felt really sticky lately, especially when cold.

After:

Also put the M-Tec bulbs back in as I'm sick of the look of standards.

While I was at it I decided to tint my headlights, I'm undecided on the outcome yet, so I'm going to tint the fogs to match tomorrow and get some photos up when I'm done. In the meantime:

Love this!

Very nice !

How low is this mate?

  • Author

Thanks guys, not sure exactly how low it is, adjusters are out at the rear and helpers are out at the front with maybe another 15mm it could go down? Needs a new ARB at the moment though as the driveshaft keeps catching.

Also have a long drive to work everyday and already caught the sump a few times

You've just answered what I was about to ask, whether I'd need some new drop links, so cheers matey!

Haha, a busted sump is worth the lows!

This looks really really nice! Wheels look surprising good as well, just spacers I reckon and this would look quality. Looks low as fuck as well

  • Author

Thanks, yeah I've though about spacers but I think I'd rather just save for some new wheels :D
