No clear coat under mk 2 bump strips?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Removed my bump strips yday, removed all the glue and now iv noticed that on the bottom edge of where the bump strip was that is a step up, like another layer of paint or clear coat.

Also on the passenger side door at the front there is no colour difference but the further u get bk the more faded it looks compared to the rest of the door, I was thing it's had a spray job on that door?

Any advice on what to do about these?

Cheers

Kyle

sounds like its had some paintwork done and they masked up the door strips

either put em back or sand it all smooth and repaint the panels effected

Ok. So sand with some fine wet and dry, respray, t-cut to blend the paint in? And then clear coat it?

Cheers steavo

you t cut after the clear ...

Oh lol slight error. U or any body else have any experience with rattle can repairs, hear a lot of bad things tbh lol

i have car painting experience but at a garage

i tend not to reccomend aerosols unless its the only option , but you can do a good job if you make the effort

read up on painting /prep before you steam in and louse it up

theres a few words in the faq about painting tht might help

Thank u very much:))))

What colour is the car? You don't necessarily need clear coat. I did a door White with normal aerosol. However, If you can afford and get hold of 2k in a spray can, go for it. It's an 'out of the can' finish. Needs very little, if any finishing. Dont use t-cut either, g10 is better. Then add polish!

Hi its, helious blue metallic

What's 2k? Soz not heArd of it lol

Tempted to just blend it with g10 that u recommend, but not sure on the results lol

Advice?

Cheers

metalic needs clear coat

2k or 2 pack is the type of paint , its mixed with a harder and chemicly cures

some folk get this confused with 2 part systems like what yours has ...basecoat being the blue and then clear laquer on top

  • Author

Oh I see, not recommended then lol?

2 pack paint is the best , you really ought to have breathing gear etc to use it

  • Author

Oh, lol doing the spraying on my drive so prob not gonna be getting that kinda stuff.

Is there no way juat to blend it In as I'm pretty nervous of spray as I may very well mess it up and could make it look worse lol

Cheers

imo no you wont blend it in without painting it

put the trims back on would be easiest lol

  • Author

Yup ok, cheer for the help

Just gotta hope I don't fuk it lol

Cheers

As said, a metallic needs clear coat. If you try to blend it in, it's not going to look too good.

Breathing gear should be used for 2k, but if your outside and only doing it once, you should be ok. It really does give a much better finish than normal aerosols, and worth considering

Due to it being a metallic, as has been said, you can't really just blow it in, and blend it into existing paint. You wiould really be looking at a full panel re-paint. If you don't feel confident at repainting whole panels, either stick the strips back on, or see how much local bodyshops would charge to do the work. It won't be cheap though!

the only reason i ask is because i was always told u can match colours that are slightly different shades with t-cut lol
