Thought i might as well get a build thread up, which will probably have stupidly slow progress, but oh well

It's a 1999 1.0L 8v :-)

Bought it standard for £900 with 107k miles, but in amazing condition and drives so smooth!

I learnt to drive in this car, and kept it standard until I passed my test and insured it.

How i bought it, (slight issue with the valance, see what happened further down...)

Then a week after i passed my test, my dad sold his car and bought a new one, but had to wait til he could pick it up, and asked to drive mine cause i wasn't insured at the time.

Last day of driving it and he manages to doze off whilst driving, woke up, shit himself and slammed on the brakes and went into a pole at 15mph...

Managed to cause this much damage;

Went to a local scrapyard and got a front bumper, headlight (turned out to be the wrong connector) and some 6n2 lights all for £45, so I was pretty happy about that :-)

My car looking like this made me a little bit sad :-(

Drove around and enjoyed driving for a while, then decided it was time for coilovers.

So i bought some JOM coilovers for £183 :-) :

Got the coilovers fitted, then someone said they had some p-slots with tyres for sale for £100. Never really liked p-slots but put them on and they made the car look 100x better, so i bought them. Got them fitted today, and realised just how bad my tracking is on the front.. So i'll hopefully get that sorted soon. And maybe some lower profile tyres as these ones wont last too much longer.

So that's it for now, got a few pictures of the car today but they're nothing special..

Would like it to be a little bit lower, but the front coilovers are wound all the way down, and the backs have a few threads left but would be pointless to put them all the way down.. dont want any reverse rake!

Any tips to get it even lower would be appreciated :-)

Comments please :-D

Good start man, looks just like mine did when I first got mine :p

The last two pictures are really good too :D

for lowering from what I've heard JOM coilovers have helper springs in, you could take these out maybe????

Someone who has JOM coilovers could shed some light on this maybe????

Great start on the car man! very good paint too ;) what are you plans to do next???

Thanks man, saw your thread a while ago, yours looks amazing!

And the second picture's editing makes the car looks a little bit darker than it actually is haha

Yeah i think thats what I'm going to do on sunday :-)

Thanks mate, yeah that paints really good, hasn't faded at all over the 12 years!

And not much really, probably roll the arches once the helpers are out, and maybe new tyres with lower profile.

Then i'll just see whatever i want to change :-)

Thought i'd bump this as i've had a few updates :)

Managed to drive into a curb like a retard and put a hole in the side of my tyre, and the other 3 needed changing too.. so instead of buying 4 new tyres, i bought some chrome wellers :) Bought them off 'maherjack' on here (top bloke to deal with)

They're 13x6 with 165/55/13's and I'm running 5mm spacers on the front so they pass my breaks (by about 0.1mm...)

Pretty happy with how it sits now, still got the helpers in so if i wanna go lower i can..

I also got some 6n2 seats from 'djj92' on here (another top guy to deal with) which my girlfriend paid for for my birthday :D

So happy with these, they're so much comfier than the standard 8v ones :)

Anyway, pictures :)

I love the wheels dude!! I would go down just a touch to close the gap a Little bit, wouldn't stupid low though,

Has the boot lid faded or is it just the photo? Looks a little pink..

Looks solid car though, I like it :)

Wheels look great! space the back a tad and it would look even better but good work mate :)

Wheels are awesome man, as Jordan says space the backs out a little bit and then drop it a bit more to get rid of the arch gap if you can.

Should look awesome then! :)

Edit: I got some 6n2 seats too, they are so much nicer :D

i like the wheels!!!! sets the colour of the car off so well, sometimes i wished i had got 6n2 seats! I've got ibiza gti seats really nice comfort in them because of the bucket style but the 6n2 seats look so yummy?!?!?!

what direction do you want to go with the lighting etc and other ideas for the exterior or keep it as it is for now???

Great car man!

Little things now, I reckon... De door strip, de wiper.. Stuff that doesn't cost :p

I think a 16v rear bumper would look nice on that!

- Shame i've just sold a pair of 16v bumpers for £50

You know i hate 13's on a mk4 unless there all the way down without helpers... But this one i would leave asis, for some reason i like it! Nice one :D

Thanks mate, but I'm considering lowering it just a little bit more to get rid of the arch gap, but not stupid low aha

Wheels look great! space the back a tad and it would look even better but good work mate :)

Yeah I'm going to get some spacers for the rears, probably 15mm when i have the money :)

Cheers mate

Spaced the rear wheels out with some 20mm hubcentric spacers :)

Also took it down a bit to get rid of the arch gap.

This is how its currently sitting;

And a cheeky shot to show how often i hit my wishbone :(

Lows.jpg

Deciding whether to space the front wheels out a little bit, as I'm not sure about the tuck? Opinions?

And I'm also planning on removing the bump strip and de-wipering (just need to get round to buying a wiper blank from somewhere)

Thoughts? :)

love it, 6ns look wicked in red, get some clear indicators on the front!

There's just something about this, like the others said, the wheels suit it really well!

Great progress man, lovin the car!

Looks great man

Front wheel looks so much dirtier than the rear haha

Someones been heavy braking ;) haha

And I hate it when the front poke.. I had 8j schmidts all round, the rears Sat lovely but the front was mingin! tuck up front you can go lower.. And poke out back, get some hot rod rake going on ;) thats what I like anyway :p tbh its not Sat too bad ATM... Get your friend to get some rolling shots of it, they always look better when they're moving :D

My wheels are 8J all round :( :p

Maybe space the fronts just a little?

Depends if you want to go any lower I guess.

  • Author

Thanks everyone :) and yeah, brakes make the fronts so dirty :( haha

well i dont think i'll go much lower anyway...

but, i've been offered some polished 16" porsche 928's in 7 and 8j (et52 all round) with 25mm and 30mm adaptors, and I'm so tempted to swap my wellers for them..

Just scared that they'll either look really good or really shit cause they're 16s...

thoughts?

I can still see arch gapp.... :ninja:

not that i can talk. :D

Really clean car, HOW? have you not got a dent in the lower part of the rear bumper!!.

But i will stick to my guns, 13's on 6ns cant work.

  • Author

hahaha i dunno, i just.. haven't :)

also, did a quick photoshop of the 928's i was offered...

poloon16s-1.jpg

Not entirely sure on them, but i know its impossible to photoshop exactly how they'd fit..

Thoughts?
