apprenticeships...

Featured Replies

rite got a few questions for you guys out there :)

I've been at college now for 3 years and to be quite honest I've loved every minute of it, whilst being at college I've been working at butlins to fund things.

but now my time at college has finished I'm just left with butlins.

and abit in two minds on things, i dont want to jump straight out into the world and think shit?

but at the same time i cant be arsed pulling pints for people i dont even no, setting tables up for people i dont even no and also cleaning kids sick up when there not even my kids!

so I've thought apprenticeships...

I've been looking about and found that now the minimum wage for an apprentice is £2.50?!?!?

and that really isnt going to pay anything seeing as i nearly pay that board/rent/keep!

so was wondering if any of you guys have been in this situation?

what did you do?

was there any funding available? I've found ema but I'm 19 in july so dont qualify.

doll?(low income allowance  )

any help would be much appreciated :)

Apprenticeships arent always low paid, I'm on one and i get a fair wage - pretty crap but good for a first year. You have to look at the bigger picture, yes I'm 21 and on a shit wage but in a few years il be on a lot more than i would have been having stayed at the hotel i worked at beforehand.

Thats the best way to look at it really, you might struggle for a couple of years but its better to struggle now, when your young and dont have any real commitments than to be struggling to raise a family/keep a roof over their heads

If your 19 and still at home id go for it. I'm 23 but i have my own place and rent to pay, no chance of going to live with parents as they have both moved miles away so I'm stuck working when id much rather be learning a new skill or furthering the one i work with now. I love IT and in some respects love what i do but i hate the office and the current jobs i have to do, things have pretty much been down graded since i started and am doing what i started on a few years ago and with no chance to move up the ladder!

Id much prefer to be with the parents and funding my education! Alas not possible with current responsibilities! So as the above poster stated, struggle for a few years now if you must before you have commitments that take priority! Youll be much better off for it!
