PROGRESS!

Been peicing everything back onto the car i.e. Rad, Intercooler, piping, all lights, indicator stalks etc...

I've found a local place called DNA AutoCare in Nottingham, the guy Danny from here has a massive reputation in my area and had a good few chats with him about my Polo. So its booked in with him for the 19th August and he's going to wire it all together and get it running as I will just keep leaving it...

So hopefully should be running by the end of August!

Damn...

Still preparing the car for the wiring to be started a week this monday (19th). Still got a few bits and bobs to do.

Just ordered a Badger 5 (Bill) K04 high flow 80mm turbo tip for better flow than the standard VAG tip.

Also ordered a brand new radiator from ECP for £38 (thanks cp discount)

But i go to newquay today for 4 days so wont be getting touched till next week and i promise ill take some pictures!

Okay so i never put any photos up of my downpipe so here we go, full 3" downpipe with a waterjet flange.

All in all it cost me 8 cans for the flange and £20 each for the bends which consisted of two 180deg 1.5D bends and 2 90deg 1.5D bends.

I tacked it up and got the lads at work to weld it, no pictures of the finished item unfortunatley.

Then a couple of poo dark phone pictures how the polo is looking right now.

Slam and rad on with headlights, door and window seals all on. Got to go to the scrappies on saturday to pick up a couple of bits like front wind up window mechs and indicator holders as mine have gone walkies... also need 2 new front wings as mine have rotted away...

Goes into DNA Autocare on monday to start being wired. There also doing some other bits and bobs too it, including fuel lines etc just the niggly jobs i cant be bothered to do haha!

Yesterday was a good day!

Did some finishing bits off to make it water tight and all the electrics on for wiring.

Started off the day with a bacon and egg cob...goes without saying!

Then headed of to the scrapyard for some much needed bits! The shopping list was...

Drivers and Passenger Manual window mechs and handles

2 decent condition wings (mine are fecked and beyond repair)

Vac pipe from brake servo

Indicator bulb holders

I got everything i needed and as a bonus the polo we first went to was a black magic pearl 16v! BONUS! and the wings are pretty mint.

Came to £70 for everything but was over the mooon with the wings.

Then got straight back to the unit and had it all fitted, chucked the bonnet on and indicators too. Actually looks like a car now, ill stick pictures up monday

Thats all for now, DNA are having the car for a round a month as he's doing it inbetween jobs to keep my cost down which is pretty cool. Really knows what hes doing too it seems so should be good to see some wire progress.

Well its definetley time for a well overdue update...unfortunatley theres not much of an update just on what I've been buying and hoarding at my chicken shed!

The plan was to have the polo done in the next month or so but as per usual SH*T happens, my daily driver if you dont know is a 2007 skoda fabia vrs, the one with the cheesey KKK turbo, that decided to go pop at 54k so had it replced for the second BRAND NEW KKK to go bang after 170miles. So back to the garage it went but due to me being an idiot and deleteing the egr, asv and fitting a milltek the kkk cant handle it and so had to buy back all the parts id deleted except the exhaust to get her running right again...long story short...I'm broke.

Anyway back to more meanful stuff like all the goodies I've been aquiring for the polo whilst shes been away at DNA.

Ordered this great peice of kit from Wiechers back in August, its a Type B rear set cage. Comes with plates to to weld onto the car and i had it specced as a bolt in for ease of fitting and saves having it painted in the car which can be a right muck about and makes alot of mess. I'm really pleased with how well its been made, proper peice of handcrafted goodness. I had the track spec version too and asked for it to be unpainted as i didnt want to risk it being damaged in transit. Also came in the 4 weeks they originally said, it was purchased through CIA technologies which i can highly reccomend.

Here she is mocked up at the unit with my Sparco Chrono seats with the Cobra Harneress'.

Well here is the car at DNA Autocare (nottingham), Ade and Danny are a great couple of lads. They're really passionate about what they do and have a 600bhp Audi S2 themselves as there "show car". Really big into tuning and these will be the guys putting the base map on the car and then mapping it when its ready for the road.

As you can see not alot has changed and looks abit of a mess still! But progress has been made, had to buy a few bits like a battery box and a new ignition switch as mine had got too damp and corroded up but all is going to plan and should have her back a couple of weeks before christmas.

Then onto my bodywork, been in talks with a local paint shop that i haven't used before so could be getting painted sooner than i though the company in question is L W Smart at Alfreton, pretty well known around my area...apparently and haven't heard any complaints, but thats for the future and need to get her running first!

Kevin Doyle (if you know him) has been making me a custom front bumper. Some of you may have seen the 6n/6n2 polo hybrid bumpers going around i think there is 15 of these but the problem owners have had is they can only go low on 16's. Chris Philips had another made but shorter so could get low without the need of 16's. I have done the same through Kevin but without the rubstrip that Chris has.

I much prefer the look of the 6n2 bumper and with my conversion it will help with positioning of the intercooler.

If you ask me its worth paying someone as it sounds like your underestimating the amount of work involved.

OKay its appauling but an update none the less.

From the begining...when i first stripped the donor car i went crazy with my lack of knowledge about auto-electrics and got abit chop happy with the loom thinking "i dont need this, or that" chop chop chop... which then turned into massive problems... the guys at DNA autocare were really helpful and really knowledgable (if thats a word) but couldnt work around the foobar'd up loom i had provided them with.

So i ended up getting a whole other interior loom, ecu, clocks and keys, which only set me back £150 so i was happy, what i wasnt happy about is the 2 and a half hours in the rain it took up to strip out of the said A3.

Straight down to dna swapped everything over and within 3 hours...she ran.

So next day the car got bought back to my unit and all things were gravy...now the work for me really starts.

Because I'm using the whole audi loom this means I use the audi switches etc...including the rear demister, hazards, wiper and indicator stalks and Ignition barrel.

This again put me in a world of poo and saying right now that i would never do a conversion like this again. I'd definetley go down the standalone management or just piggy back the relay/fuse boxes.

So anyway... Started off with me fitting the Audi stalks onto the polo column. Yeah that didnt go well to start with... started by taking the polo ignition barrel off...unfortunately this has the top bearing support for the steering column. out came the angle grinder to cut that off and then turned it down on the lathe.

Then slid the stalks over the column, fitted the bearing then pulled the stalks back over the bearing housing, tightened up the clamp on the stalks and done. EFFORT.

This is how shes looking from the inside now, I've now decided to run the polo dash but alot of it will be customised and modifed to suit audi clocks and ignition in the center console etc. I want to give it a motorsport feel but still have a bit of luxury and homliness if thats the word?

Obviously the ecu wont be held up there...its just there for sorting the wiring out for the time being.

Bought this very handy tool aswell for threaded nut inserts, makes making and fitting brakets really simple. Saves welding or tapping holes out

Right a little bit more from the weekend.

Started off by tackling the water hoses, used a part from the Corrado I'm breaking for the top rad hose.

Used the original A3 top hose cut into it then popped in the corrado pipe so i have a feed back to the coolant bottle.

Then used some 8mm Ash coolant hose i ordered along with some new Stainless jubilee clips.

Had to make sure I still had room for my intercooler piping, I've gone for 2 1/2" which is a little big if anything but it means in the future I can go to a bigger turbo with no worries as my intercooler will cope with a few more cooling ponies. Most of the pipes will be welded together (aluminium) then just silicone joiners on the throttle bodie, intercooler and turbo to minimise loss of boost.

I've now finished trimming my slam panel so it sits around everything fine, inlcuding the radiator, inlet, throttle bodie and intercooler piping so decided to give that a dose of crackle black with abit of matt black over the top.

After 2 years she's finally got her ass back! Yep the rear bumper is not on, i wired up the numberplate lights (scrapyard find) and stuck them in the bumper and put it on with all new bolts from VW tps.

Brand new mk3 golf 1.9tdi (AAZ) radiator, fits perfect into the space on a 6n slam panel. I might have touched it when putting it on and bent some fins haha.

Thanks man, just trying to keep pushing with it.

Been getting a few more bits and bobs done on this, but not as much as I'd like. Been spending alot of time trying to sort a new unit out due to unforseen circumstances, which kinda sucks but oh well its time to move onto somewhere smaller, dry and closer to home.

I managed to get hold of some early A3 headlights, which i disected and took the internal loom from. This means i can plug and play my Hofele headlights with the Audi loom. Happy days!

My plans with the inside of the car keep changing with alsorts of ideas floating around in my head. The original plan was to not run a dash then i thought id make a bare minimal one from aluminium, well now I've decided to butcher apart the Polo dash and the A3 dash then mould the two together with fibreglass then get it flocked.

The Audi clocks will be housed in the middle of the Dash, yes the middle...i wanted to do something a little different so thats what i came out with.

This is just after an hour on it last night with a grinder, hacksaw and some P40.

Well did some more work on the dash last night, bought a couple of proper fibreglass sheet kits. So got cracking, first time I've really used the stuff so its definetly a learning curve...much like the rest of the project!

Started covering the vents and speaker hole, need to get some chicken wire or something to stop the glass falling back. But seems to be going okay for now.

Added some sheet around the join for the clock pod to try and shallow out the step and get it mor flowy and smooth.

Drivers side speaker hole vanished. Used part of the old Audi dash to fill in the big hole where the polo pod was and P40'd that in then layered with sheets. Also started to make the shape for section under the pod where the heater vents would of been.

How its looking from the front atm, all my switches etc will be housed in the center section to keep it neat and tidy.
