at the moment i am running my bmc like this where the new pipe is going to the original pipes

i am going to order some new pipes as the ones on there at the moment arent a great fit. so is it fine to run it like this or would it be better to ditch all the original stuff and run a pipe to the bottom of the bumper?

all that does how you have it at the moment is alow hot air into the air intake for cold start. i ditched the lot and had the cold air feed going into the wing where it feeds at the mo.

the warm air feed is to speed up the warm-up cycle so removing it will increase the time taken for the engine to reach normal operating temp.

more noticeable on cold mornings but it is not really a problem with injection engines.. my mk2 doesn't run this and it warms up pretty quick

well i aint got a cold start thing. i just got a induction cone not bmc and i live in the sticks and in winter started beautifully every morning. unless somebody else can disagree with me i dont see it been a prob

what is the best type of piping to get then i dont want to spend too much though?

The only danger with an air intake that is too low down, is that you can quite easily pick up water in either heavy downpours, or when passing through flood water.

eather like i have with some flexy tube or if you want to go all the way get some alloy tube, silicone joiners and some 90 or 45s and make a really nice cold air feed :)
