Hi Guys, i've been offered a 2000 plate polo 1.0 mpi 97k on the clock with a couple of engine related issues. Been as its a bargain price i was thinking if its not too much to do i'll get it fixed up. The problems it has are....

the fly wheel has stripped a couple of teeth so that will need replacing and plug no.2 keeps fouling with oil, i'm guessing maybe valve stem seals? are the parts easy to get hold of? been a while since i've done anything vw wise.

Other than the above faults its a very tidy car with 10mths mot 6mths tax for £250

For the price, you can't go wrong, but maybe you should be prepared to have to fit a 'new' engine.

You could probably buy a new flywheel ring gear, rather than a complete flywheel, they are not too difficult to change, however, you may also need a new starter motor pinion.

The oil fouling plug would be more of a worry to me, you see I am a pesimist, thinking that you may have a broken piston, whereas you are obviusly an optimist, thinking that it will need a new valve stem seal! I hope that my pesimism is unfounded and that it works out well for you.

If you buy it and decide to fit a new ring gear, let us know, and I will (if you so wish) put up a fitting guide.

fot the time to have the box out and head off to the the stem seals like above you can drop a new lower milage motor in :) you can pic them up cheap enough

cheers guys, well its now sat on my drive :0) wont get chance to start playing with it till next week though. How much do you think i'd be able to get a used motor for? may pull it apart first anyway just to satisfy my own curiousity as to wether it is the valve seals? it runs really well till the plug oils up lol i'll keep you posted.
