Polo 9n - Rubber Bushes

Featured Replies

Recent MOT said that mine where shot

Friends replaced them before in other cars , and said he can do the work all i need to do is get the parts.

On my MOT the only information i have to go by is as follows:

Front (Both close to limit) Suspension rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive moment [2.4.G.3]

Its a 2002 9N1 (mk6) Polo Tdi Sport

I’ve found this but I'm thinking it maybe wrong

thats the exact part i used last week mate after vw , seat , gsf and others telling me i had to buy a complete new wishbone at £65 a side they have consul bushes at the rear these are common to go your best buying seat ibiza cupra ones to replace them with as there solid not voided so they last much longer , the problem i had is mind had already been changed recently but the last owner must of not fitted them propper and the smaller bushes listed above were nackerd

if you change them yourself goto bnq and buy a meter of threded bar and some washers and nuts to make yourself a press to fit them it will cost you about £10 for enough parts to make 3 of them as theres no way of fitting the bushes without them i used a 36mm socket (this is so the bush can come back out of the other side) and the threded bar with nuts and washers to get the bush fitted in right

the bush bottom right on the pic is the consul bush the bigger one and the small bush your taking about is top right on the picture ,

i fitted the new bushes without removeing the wishbone i just undone and bottom ball joint 3x 13mm bolts behind the wheel then a 17mm bolt that holds the wishbone to the subframe and dropped the wishbone down it took about 30 mins per side i did mine outside my house

I don't know if this applies to every engine model, but none of the guides for removing wishbone bushings mention that oil pan will be obscuring removal of the 17mm bolt. I have -03 1.2l. 12V engine Polo and I encountered this problem. I usually try to find information about this type of situations to be prepared with correct tools and procedures for making actual job straightforward as possible. I found few very good instructions for this job from the net. So I thought that it would be quite hassle free according to guides. So I took wheel and ball joint off the wishbone and started cranking that long bolt. After some sweaty workout with that bolt I found out that its going to hit the oil pan and there is no room to remove it. I tried to jack up the engine but engine mounting did not give up that much. I thought that no problem I loosen up that engine mount to get that engine little bit more out of the way. Of course that engine mount is fastened with 16mm bolt which is not very common size. I turned that whole garage upside down to find that socket size with no success. You can imagine how pissed I was cranking that bolt back in place.

slacken the lower gearbox mount completely, and pull the engine forward as far as you can. (you might have to drop the front pipe too) the 18mm headed bolt will just come out.
